I don't know if they are getting more expensive or not. The last booking I made for Stanford inn was for Jan/feb 2016, this is the booking I got for $69 a night. I also book quite a way in advance, so maybe that's the reason I always find a great deal.
IMO, $120 is still good for Stanford. The room and all the added extras are definitely worth it. Yes, it's quite a ways away but ART is my friend and for someone who would rather spend my money on souvenirs and food, rather than fancy accommodation, it's perfect.
We're not going again until January 2017, so I've just been putting in hypothetical dates. I've tried a lot of different dates and all have been over $100. Same thing with the QIS, where we always paid less than $80/night before. I just discovered that Stanford has a cool calendar though if you're dates are flexible and shows rates like an airline. The lowest price they list for all winter/spring is $107 only on Feb 20. It isn't until August 21 that rates drop below $100. Ten months out is pretty far in advance to get a low price. Usually 4 months out has been good for us. Dates go until mid-October next year and never drop below $85. That is for the suite though, so it's not a bad deal. It just seems like prices are rising. Maybe they'll drop though with so many people saying they won't visit with the train closed and river drained.
ETA: ART is an additional expense that I consider when booking a hotel. It's also an added pain. So when I have to buy tickets to use ART and then have to deal with the pain of using ART, sometimes I decide it's not worth $10/night saved on a hotel. For $120 a night, we could stay at The Desert Inn across the street in their executive room (sleeps 6), or pay $10 more an get a suite. No ART tickets to buy and no waiting, however they also have about $15 of added fees per night that I'd have to consider. I'm just wondering if it's going to be harder and harder to find rooms for less than $100/night.
Note: The $120/night is the cost of either hotel for the week of January 4, 2016. We hope to visit that same week in 2017. Obviously I could likely get either hotel for less if we booked further in advance, as we probably will.
