Cheaper package through a travel agent?

Someone posted on a recent thread that her travel agent was able to get her a package $500 less than she was able to get through Disney's site, PLUS the TA gave her water parks and more for free.

Have I been missing the boat on this one? I always thought the prices were the same no matter where you booked your WDW vacation. Am I wrong on that?

Maybe the travel agent knew about specials they hadn't learned of yet.
Personally, our friend used a TA, and we had better luck doing all the planning ourselves. She was stressing over not being able to reach her and not knowing what was going on.
Just a matter of choice I guess, but my daughter is a meticulous planner (control freak, lol) and did a wonderful job.

...only12 more days!

Naturally, there are going to be TAs that can offer more than others. Some of them will sacrifice part of their commission to give their customers a little bit extra (such as the water park add on or a nice welcome basket sent to their room/cruise cabin). The only way to know whether YOUR TA can get you a better deal is to get a quote. Just because you request a quote, that doesn't commit you to booking. You can always say "no, thank you".

It depends. It could be that the TA has a group of rooms she is booking and you fit those dates to get the discount. It could be that she knows of a discount that the person didn't know fit her dates.

I am leery of TAs. I tried at first and discovered that I knew things she didn't, just from reading the DIS. I don't really trust someone else to care as much about my ADRs as I do. The TA would not have been up at 3 am to make sure I got BOG.

If it is who I am thinking of they do Convention Tickets and rates with blocks of rooms which do have ONE DAY of either a water park, mini golf or Oak Trail round included with it. they expire at the end of the year or 14 days after first activation and you cannot upgrade them in any way shape or form as you would a regular ticket.

FWIW for a short two adult get away next year they were about $200 cheaper than using Disney's Bounce Back offer to us which was 30% off and cheaper than renting points and getting tickets separately as well.
