Is there a cheap place to go skiing right outside NY. Willing to drive 4 hours.

My 13 yr. wants to ski for her 13th birthday. I've never been skiing. None of us have been skiing.

Everything I've been looking at costs over $350. Don't need to sleep over anywhere and I'd like a lodge to hangout in.

It would depend where you are, but Camelback here in the Pocono's is 2 hours in average traffic from the city . They have a $99 deal where you get three days of lift ticket, lessons and rentals you can use anytime during the season. It's only good once, as it is their learn to ski/snowboard package, my kids did it last year so now we have to pay regular prices :(

$99 for all of that? That is a great price, we spend $130 for seasonal rentals alone.

OP have you looked at Hunter and Windham in the Catskills?
There are also some smaller mountains within your driving time in NY like Tuxedo Ridge, Thunder Ridge, Holiday Mountain, Plattekill Mountain.
Also, check ski shops in your area, they usually sell discounted lift tickets.

I don't know if you want to wait this long to go, but Mount Snow has a special on St. Patricks Day that you can purchase via their website:

" St. Paddys Day Celebration including $17 lift tickets on Sunday March, 17, 2013. (Must purchase 48 hours in advance online). Live music, green eggs, kegs and ham!

My friends who worked there said it was packed last year when they did this promotion.

I know nothing about skiing, but I (on LI, too) keep hearing commercials about Shawnee. Supposedly the closest PA skiing to NY.
