Cheap sim card in Orlando

We were in Orlando in December, I had a package on my Orange phone for 30% discount on all texts and calls, I was texting and calling friends over there and texting home. My bill from Orange after 3 weeks was about £120.

I did visit AT&T and TMobile - Tmobile were offering the best deal - I think it was about $45 for a 30 day card for all calls, which would have been the best option.

Not a good thing to do use a UK mobile for calls or data in the US, you usually pay between £1~£1.50/min similar for receiving.
Anyone just wanting to send a couple of texts each day then UK mobiles are fine, more than that then other options need to be looked at.
For calls we used Skype last year, made 18 calls and cost me 72p.

I've got the exact same problem.
I'm attending a wedding at Disney in Orlando in august and would like a few PAYG sims.

There's a few of us attending and I can imagine the stress in the run up and people wanting to call each other to find out where we shipped the groom to etc etc, and so I'm looking for a few sims.

Skype and the likes is an excellent idea as long as there is wifi or a mobile data plan.

I'm ideally after some kind of data PAYG for Skype etc and cheaper calls to others in the party while we're all away.

If I find anything I'll let you know here.

If one one the US networks cottoned on to Disney visitors wanting a PAYG sim for 2 weeks I think they could make themselves a couple of quid as it seems a common issue while I've been searching.

You do realise O2's roaming charge is for data roaming dont you? Shouldnt effect txts specialy if you have unlimeted free txts

Just to clarify:

1. You will need to ensure that you have roaming enabled when you leave the country (UK or Ireland) by calling O2. This is for calls, texts and data. Often on Pay Monthly it's already on as standard.

2. You will then have to pay for any calls, texts or data you use whilst abroad.

3. You will have to pay to both MAKE and RECEIVE calls.

4. You will have to pay to SEND texts, but most providers allow you to receive them for free (best to check!).

5. You will have to pay for data you use. On most modern phones, they are constantly using small amounts of data. It's best to turn this off entirely when you go abroad, using the settings on your mobile's handset, unless you intend to use lots of data.

6. Even with data turned off, you should be able to use your phone to download data via a wireless internet connection, just as you would a laptop. But you'll need to be somewhere with a wireless internet connection ;-)

7. When you're abroad, unless you have a very expensive monthly package, all your free calls, texts, data allowance etc. don't exist. You will have to pay for each call you make, each text you send, each MB of data etc.

8. Some mobile providers will sell you pre-packaged bundles, e.g. 10 texts for £1.50 whilst abroad. This works out cheaper if you use them all, but you'll pay regardless of how many you use. You'll need to call them to discuss your options.

Think I'll just use the free sim card from an Irish provider the other day. There's a bit of credit to be applied to it every so often. I just dont fancy having to go over and pay more money on top of my €50 p/month bill.

All we need to do is send a few texts to each other. No phone calls.

You realise that using the free SIM on Pay As You Go will be more expensive than using your contract SIM, right? It really is the cheapest option.

That is a lot of money per month, is it an iPhone contract?
We pay £10/month each, would never be able to use the allowance, something like 3,000 texts included & I only use about 2-3% of the internet allowance.

Even iPhone contracts don't cost that much

Great Idea at least it won't cost you anything . I was out of contract last month with o2 so switched to pay as you go will get €10 per month for 6 months free credit always great to get something for nothing
