My parents need a cheap rental car for 3 days from Dec 1-4th. My dad is also adament that he will not drive a foreign car (he works for Ford). Any chance i can get something under $150, if not cheaper? Any codes or hints would be greatly appreciated! thanks!

Using the Walmart code and a $15 Entertainment coupon you can get a Standard/Full Size at Alamo for right around $150. These are actually cheaper than the economy and compact classes for your dates. With Alamo he can walk out and pick any car he wants in the car class reserved. They have plenty of American made models.

I am sure others can find better deals out there. Though with this being a rental during week days vs weekend days, the deals are more limited.

Thank you so much! We are also going to try "name your own price" on priceline to see if that helps us any. Thanks again!

I think your Dad is going to have (or should be prepared) to get over the foreign car thing. I can't think of ever getting the car shown to me on the rental site. For 3 days, I think I'd suck it up. But, if it is important, I think you should stick with a company where they let you pick your car out in the lot, like Alamo or National. If you go with a company that assigns the car at the counter, your ability to select a specific car is limited by how willing the counter agent is to work with you. (Of course, from December 1-4 there shouldn't be too much of a strain on the availability of cars)

Trust me, i feel the same way. He is hard headed though. Hopefully he will get over it before then, that way there wont be a scene if he has to drive foreign! :sad2:

I'm not trying to be rude or anything, I'm seriously curious about someone with this attitude (for lack of a better term). I've never met anyone that adamant about car choice.

Does he consider a Ford made in China domestic of foreign? How about a Honda made in Alabama?

I think that most rental cars tend to be domestic. Although I have seen hyundais. On the whole, domestic cars are cheaper than imports to buy and service, so that is what the rental companies buy.
