Does anyone know of any cheap or free things to do in Cleveland, TN? We are taking a group of Middle Schoolers to a church camp there in June, and wanted some ideas on what to do in our free time. Thanks!

Really off the top of my head I can't think of anything to do in Cleveland. It's really small. You will be close to Chattanooga.. would going there to do something be a possibility? There is a great aquarium in Chattanooga. I'll check around though and maybe someone else will have a suggestion.

Probably only about 30 minutes to Chattanooga. Rock City and Ruby Falls are also worth seeing there.

You might check out the route to Fields of the Woods in North Carolina. It's an interesting display of some biblical things that your church camp kids might enjoy.

Not real close, but an interesting area is Tellico Plains and Bald River Falls.

Just up I-75 a few miles is Sweetwater, where Lost Sea is located. All my kids went there on school field trips and enjoyed it.

The Ocoee River was the site of some of the olympic games in 1996. It's an interesting drive along the river (though closed right now because of a major rock slide). Depending on how much time you've got, you can keep going toward North Carolina and hit some of the interesting North Georgia towns like Young Harris.

You will be about 30 minutes from Athens, TN. Mayfield Dairy has a visitors center there and they have plant tours and ice cream http://www.mayfielddairy.com/

Forgot about that. I went with one of the kids on a field trip. I was fascinated by the machine that makes milk jugs.

I think at the same exit (but you'll see billboards) is the Sweetwater Valley Farms. They sell really good cheese and the dairy is right at the farm, so it's interesting if the kids aren't around farms a lot.

Not a whole lot of free stuff in Cleveland....there are some plants up there like Coke and Mars but I don't think they are the plants that give tours....more like distributors maybe? There is an apple orchard but it does cost to go through it, it's called Apple Valley. You might also check the McKee company....they make Little Debbie cookies and they are there in Ooltewah (just a short 10 minute drive from Cleveland) and they may give tours. There is also a couple of colleges that might be putting on plays or something that you could see. There is Lee University and the Southern Adventist University.

Hi I am from Cleveland. What camp are the kids going to? I actually work for Parks and Recreation here in Cleveland,TN. We have several really nice parks and swimming pools.

Also check out the website funandfrugal.com the girl lives in cleveland that runs the site and always post about frugal happenings in Cleveland and close by.

If you would like to call me concerning our parks you can PM me and I will give you my office phone number...:thumbsup2
