Cheap(ly) made tickets (minor rant)

The first year we went to WDW (2000), we were issued plastic park hopper tickets (much like your hotel access card).

Every year since that time, we've been issued the cheap paper tickets that are prone to rapid wearing and tearing. Do you think somewhere in the $1300 one shells out for 8-day park hopper passes for my family of five there would be enough to provide for a more durable card? Heck, I'd spend an extra $10 to get something a little more user-friendly.

Come to think of it, maybe I just answered my own question. If you go directly through Disney (full retail, not the discounts I've gotten from ticketmania and undercover tourist), do you still get the "high quality" cards?

Small points, but I'm tired and I thought I'd complain about something.

I've always got the packages whether through AAA or Disney and we always get the credit card type passes. Even MVMCP is one.

If you order at disneyworld.com you get the plastic cards NOT the paper kind. I just got mine on Monday.

last 2 trips we have gotten our tix from the disney store, and we get the credit card type ones. also, if u get your tix when at your hotel, they will put them right on your key to the world (room key). dm did this her last time there.

The only time we've had credit-card type park tickets is when they tie your admission to your room key - then your room key is your ticket. All other tickets we've had have been the "paper" variety (except the MVMCP ticket, which is plastic I believe - don't have them readily available).

Note that the "paper" tickets aren't quite paper - they are a fairly durable paper-and-plastic mix I believe. They will last plenty long enough with reasonable care.

Even annual passes, which you figure need to last for up to a year of usage, are on the "paper" tickets.

For safeguarding against loss or deterioration, I recommend keeping your receipt from your order, and a photocopy of the back of the ticket(s) clear enough to make out the ID numbers. You can go to guest services with that info to get tickets reissued.

Gosh, I have a 'cheap paper' AP every year and I've never had a problem with wear and tear! It gets a pretty good work out too :)

We have always had the paper type but they hold up without any problem. We even used up a few days from 2000 last year so they had held up 6 yrs and had been used for 5 or 6 days before and then again that trip.

I forgot to mention as well - reports are that the paper tickets are less prone to demagnetization than the plastic ones...not quite sure why, but it means less problems in lines.

The 'paper' ones are not paper. They are a Tyvek paperboard (Tyvek is the impossible to tear stuff you sometimes get as mailer envelopes). It is very durable.
We've had APs made from it for years and haven't had a problem. A CM in Guest Relations told us that they have a lot more problem with the plastic 'credit card' like passes. They get cracked if people sit when they have them in a pocket, they get demagnatized easier and the magnetic strip is more easily scratched on the hard plastic than it is on the 'paper' passes.

This is 100% correct, actually. Guest Relations and Vacation Planners encounter drastically more problems from the plastic cards than the 'paper' one's. The 'paper' one's are actually quite durable and are less prone to demag than the plastic one's.

Heh - I was just about to post exactly those same points, but you beat me to it.

In the 17 years I have been going to WDW, I have never, not even once, had a Tyvec ticket rip, tear, or even crease - not even my APs, which got quite a workout during their 365-day lifespans. I have never had any ticket demagnetize on me, either, not even a KTTW card; the only time that ever happened to me was once at an off-site hotel.

If you are staying at a Disney resort, You might ask if they can put the days on your room key. I think I've read in the past that they can do it. Never hurts to ask if you would rather have a plastic card.

Please prove that the Tyvek passes are cheaper to make, and could you please post a photo of your passes with tears in it?

If your tickets are from a discount broker and they are made of real paper, then you aint getting in the gate.

I think the APs should be made plastic like a credit card. It always makes me mad. They cost a lot of money and if they get bent at all they won't work right. Every year at least one of us has problems at the gate because of it. I wish they wouldn't be such cheapskates about some stuff.

The plastic "tickets" you get on Disney.com and at the Disney Store are simply vouchers to be traded for the real tickets at the park unless something has changed that I am not aware of.

I used to think that, too, but I've changed my mind after gaining more experience with the plastic and Tyvec tickets.

The Tyvec tickets are more robust and do last longer and work better - if you take proper care of them. In 17 years of goinf to WDW, I've never bent or creased a ticket; it's a simple matter of keeping them safely inside a wallet or lanyard except when you need them.

The tickets you get at the Disney Store are definitely not vouchers - they are real, fully activated and ready to use, tickets.

I haven't ordered from Disney.com, but I am pretty sure they send you real tickets, too, not vouchers.

To my knowledge, vouchers are only sent if you order an Annual Pass online, not regular tickets.

Your Disney Store must have something the ones in Jacksonville Florida do not....I know as recent as last Sunday our Disney Stores only sold plastic vouchers you still had to exchange at guest services for actual tickets. I have never ordered tickets onlineI was jsut assuming it was the same.

Are you talking about APs? Because the APs are vouchers but the Magic Your Way tickets are real up here.

Talking about the ones at the store.
