I've been looking for a nice luxury car to rent, but I don't want it to cost more then what I am paying for my own car. Any suggestions??? Somthing besides a van or a focus. Thanks

We've rented luxury cars in the past, and they've always been pretty expensive. I even recall paying $100 a day for them a couple years ago over the X-Mas Holiday. Anything under $70-day/$400-week I'll book, that seems to be a good price. Otherwise, we end up with who ever has the cheapest luxury car. Sometimes you may run into a good deal, but you'll always get a better deal for a compact thru full-size.

What kind of car are you looking to rent? more specifics are appreciated. There are many cars better than a Ford Focus that are certainly not "luxury"

Walking is better than a Focus. LOL

Focus isn't a bad little car not that I'd buy one. My daughters car was stolen (from a mall). Enterprise first gave us a GEO, it was so bad I returned it and was "upgraded" to a Focus. After the Geo the Focus was great. The Geo was so bad Enterprise is going to sell it for parts.

Like a Lincoln, Caddy, full-size car, or a full-size suv.

You can get a full size car at a reasonable rate. Dollar rents Dodge Intrepid and you might be able to use an upgrade coupon to reserve that size car.

Lincoln/Caddy are available from Hetz (and probably other agencies). Shop around, some of the coupons and free upgrade coupons don't work on that size car.

Oh, sorry about DD's car and even more sorry about the GEO (aka speck). IMHO, Focus is UGLY!!!!

Be aware that lately more and more car rental agencies are using Buick Park Avenue's & Chrysler 300M's as luxury cars instead of the usual Caddy/Lincoln.

National is running a book ahead special for 209.00 per week for a luxury. That is pretaxes and fees.

Alamo is also running a book ahead special, but, I have not checked that.

Thrifty and Dollar's websites- they have had some good deals for fullsize for $129 a week and you can usually find a free upgrade to luxury for week rentals through a google search. Also check out wdwig.com she has some ideas/codes to I believe. Keep looking- avoid Hertz/Avis- they are OUTRAGEOUS for a luxury- sometimes over $600 for the week!!!

What code are you using for 129.00 a week at Dollar?

Lincoln LS, V70 XC Wagon, Volvo S80 Sedan
$75 USD

Participating Locations in US & Canada
Jaguar X-TYPE

$95 USD

It all depends on what type of luxury car you want. If you want a regular Lincoln it is cheaper than this. Premium size cars are the Grand Marquis and Ford Crown Vic. There are specials on the luxury cars too every now and then at Hertz. I once had a Lincoln Town Car for cheaper than a full size Taurus.

Like every other rental company it depends on the time of year you are going whether the rates are reasonable.

Is that a daily or weekly rate?

Gail, those are daily rates. I have gotten some pretty good special prices on the Southwest site and I don't even fly them. I got the Lincoln Town Car for less than the Taurus the one time last summer.
