I'm looking for a reasonable insurance company for home and auto...I just got my renewal and it went up almost $800 for the year with no accidents or any changes :confused3

Doesnot answer you question but I miss private insurance and need to Rant.

Moved to Manitoba last year and you can only get Car insurance from Manitoba Public Insurance, a goverment run agency. I am paying 2X+ as much as I did in Ontario or the other 4 provinces I lived in AND my deductable is more AND I do not get rental car insruance AND I do not get a replacement car. I could get a lower deductable and replacement car if I wanted to pay more but I was too shocked at the sticker price for what I am paying.

Also had to file a cliam for hail damage and it took 2 months to get an appointment with a goverment adjuster and then 6 weeks to get it fixed. So I pay more than double and the claims process is a pain.

When I had RBC Insurance in On if I was in an accident, they would come right to the crub side with a replacement car and send an adjuster right to my house.

Sorry for the rant, but I feel better.

We switched to TD bank home and auto insurance about 4 years ago because of that same problem with our old company. When we switched we were quoted a price that was $600 less than what we had been paying. Try them, we have had no trouble with TD at all, and our price has not increased since we switched.

We're from ON...and we're with TD...apparently everyone will have an increase this year upon renewal with them : (

I would go back to your insurance agent (assuming you are working with an agency) and get them to shop around for you.

have you tried contacting an insurance broker and having them shop around for you?

Ours went up this year as well (over $300) I was really surprised. We had been with the same company for 10 years but we got a better deal for both auto and home insurance with RBC so we are with them now.

Try kanetix.ca it will give you quotes from a variety of agenices so you can shop around.

We are with Td but am now concerned it will go up so much even though we are claim free.:confused3

We are with Gore Mutual for both. We used an insurance broker and she has Always been able to find the lowest prices around! You don't pay anything to a Broker (they kind of work like a TA I guess), so definately worth using one!

It's a really tough market in Ontario - trust me, I'm an insurance broker.
All the rates are going up, especially property insurance.

The best thing to do is shop around and then you know what is out there. Sometimes you can find something lower. The companies all take increases at different times of the year, so depending on when you renew you may find a lower rate with a company that has not had their increase kick in yet.

Good Luck!

We have ours with PC Financial....I have a feeling they are no longer taking on new clients but you can always call and ask. We were previously with a branch of the Co-Operators (I can't remember the name...it was the no office call centre angle). Our rates were stable for a few years and then they went up significantly. I started calling around and ended up with PC for approx $700 less per year. PC offers a disappearing deductable....it reduces by 20% per year when you are claim free until it is a zero deductable. If you make a claim you then have to start back at whatever it was to begin with.

I am fairly sure that there was just an across the board increase with rates. It does happen every couple of years. My premiums went up a little but my 20yo DD's rate went up $380 on a car that only has liability. My increase was about $250...but that's for my 2 cars and my home.
