What cheap but still nice hotels can you recommend at HH since DVC is full? I am planning for the weekend after July 4.

TIA,

MMCD

There is a nice Hampton Inn on Hilton Head that runs about $100 per night, very close to the DVC resort.

There is also a Fairfield Inn and a Motel 6 just past the resort on the right (would not be on beach side of the island).

Highly recomend biddingfortravel.com and using priceline, or Hotwire.... The Marriot Hilton and Hyatt are often available for around 75....

I got the Holiday Inn right on the beach for $90 a night with their frequent "flyer" club membership (don't remember what they call it -- it may be the Hilton one). The rooms were "adequate."

I know someone who got the Holiday Inn Express nearby through AAA in March, 2005 for $49 a night weekday and $69 per night weekend. (I may be off by $10.)

Macnjac87,

Have you stayed at this Hampton Inn on Dillon Road? I looked it up on tripadvisor.com. Reviews of this location is quite bad.

The weekend in question is PRIME time for HH. Doubt you will find much on Priceline and "Cheap and Hilton Head" are not always compatible terms.

The Hampton Inn that I recall is out by the airport. I stayed there one night. The hotel was OK, but not a good location. Too far from the beach etc. I would try to find something that you can walk to the beach from. HH has limited public parking for thier beaches and that week is bound to be crowded.

The words "cheap" and "Hilton Head" are not often used in the same sentence. Good luck! :teeth:

DVC is booked and I am on the waiting list. I need something for a back up. I want to stay under $100.

Have you considered staying in Bluffton? (Between I-95 and HHI). It will be a little further from the beaches, but it seems that all kinds of hotels/motels are popping up there and my guess is that they're probably less expensive than the ones on HHI.

Or, if this will be the beginning or end of your trip, maybe consider Savannah or Charleston? (Depending on which direction you prefer.) They're both neat cities with lots to do. If you're anything like us, once you get on HHI, you never leave to check out any place else!!! ;)

Location, Location, Location!!! We got to be on the Island. I've made ressies at The Residence Inn for $104/night. The Fairfield was $179/night. Has anybody stayed at either place before? Can we walk to the beach?

The Residence Inn is off the 278 toward the southern end of the island. Since it's not in one of the plantations, you'll have to use the public beach access points. You should be able to bike to the beach though. Never stayed there, but friends have and said they liked it. HTH
