I need to find a nice clean SAFE hotel to stay in on the way to orlando. I was hoping to stay in the Macon , GA area but have since heard its not the best place to stay. I need recommnedations for places easy to find, Cheap ($50 or less) and would love for it to have a pool and some free breakfast. :confused3
Thanks so much for your help!

We drove from Iowa a couple of weeks ago. We did not have any reservations and drove until we were tired. I felt we were taken advantage of at some hotels. A hotel(Travelodge) in Gainesville Fl. charged us with tax $140. and it was not very nice. We had tried to get a room for awhile and they were all booked. So we had no choice but to stay. I really wished we had made a plan as to where we were going to stop and made reservations in advance. My expierence with Marriott Courtyards has been very good. They are reasonably priced and offer continental breakfast. I did not see a hotel for under 80 in this area. Most advertise cheaper along the Interstate but never have those rooms when you ask for them. The only hotel that we found that cheap looked dirty and in unsafe areas to me.

I've stayed in several Macon hotels and they were all nice. I usually expect to pay closer to $65, but sometimes beat that. The Residence Inn is my favorite.

I got a good Priceline deal there once, but my bid wasn't accepted until about a week or so before checkin. I think it cost me $40. Might have been $35.

We've also had good luck stopping at the rest area for the hotel coupon books. We usually stop farther south than Macon. Exit 5 has usually been a winner for us.

I answer this on the Transportation board

Stockbridge or Morrow - both are on I 75 south just pass the airport

Laquinta inn - nice place
Amerihost - nice place
Best Western - can be nice
Motel 6 - in a nice place - but not a nice hotel

go to
www.expedia.com
put in Stockbridge - if you don't like those suggestion put in Morrow.

they are both about 10 to 15 minutes pass the Atlanta International Airport.

only go for the places near I75, I675 - the others I285 or I85 - it might be harder the next morning to get back on I75.

Did you do any research and find out that college towns like Gainesville often have room rates go up significantly because of big sporting events or commencement going on? A few weeks back we had the Orange and Blue game (which is HUGE here) and a little bit later it was Commencement weekend.

Please don't besmirch an entire town because *you* didn't properly plan

I have stayed at the Fairfield Inn in Macon several times both right off 75 and one right off 475. I have been totally comfortable in both spots.

I have stayed in Macon many times with no problems. I normally stay at the Comfort Inn on exit 2 on I-475. About $60.00 per night. Continental breakfast and a pool. Plenty of good eats in the area...Cracker Barrel across the street and Sonny's BBQ about a 1/4 down the road. Hopes this helps you out ...Enjoy Oralndo!!!
