I would advise buying tickets for the train in advance though, they can be really expensive if you buy them on the actual day.
Tickets for 4 people can vary dramatically, Just put some random dates in as I can only look up to 3 months in advance, but if you travelled from London Kings Cross (one of the main stations and location of platform 9 3/4 from Harry Potter) to Edinburgh Wed 8th June 2011 one way for 4 adults... £75!! I'm actually shocked at that
