Wow,
last year I lived on Long Island and was able to flight out of JFK to Orlando for $150 RT.

Now, I live in NJ and I can't find a fare lower than $237 out of Newark. Anyone know of any discount airlines from Newark.

Jfk has Jet blue, but I don't think I want to drive back from Queens on the weekend. Could be a monster of a drive.

Any thoughts??

Fly out of Atlantic City International Airport.... you can get a good deal on a direct flight to Orlando on Spirit Air and the airport is ten times nicer and cleaner than Newark... we usually fly out of Newark, but used AC for the first time in April... it was such a good experience that we will use AC whenever we can from now on... in fact we are going back in November and will be leaving from there. Plus... it only cost $3.50 a day to park your car at the AC lot... I think it costs $3.50 an HOUR in Newark.

Tom,

Thank you so much. I just moved to NJ from Long Island, New York. I've been looking at fares from Phillie, Lehigh Valley and newark. It never ocurred to me that there was an airport in Atlantic City. I'm about 40 minutes from AC.

Will definitely check the fares on Spirit. We used them from Long Island.

Thanks again. You just gave me the best birthday present today.

Fares from Newark have been real high latley. I've been watching them since about Feb. or March, and they havent dropped below about $175 for non-stop flights. We are goin in September. Last year I bought non-stop tickets froom EWR to MCO....BEFORE 9/11 for $135 pp. I guess the airlines just gotta try to get some money back now. Sucks for us, but I cant blame em.

Well, how many people are you flying? If more than 2, I would stilly fly out of JFK or LGA, and take a car service into Manhattan. When I lived in Jersey city, we used to take the PATH into midtown, and take a cab to JFK or LGA. The PATH is onlly 1.50, and it'll take you right to midtown. Don't drive. Doesn't worth the energy and the parking.

If you can get $150 out of JFK, and $240 out of EWR, that's a $90 pp difference. A car from Jersey to JFK probably won't cost that much. And if you can plan and take public transit, that's a main savings right there.

Another alternatives is to fly out of Baltimore. But to be honest, with the gas and parking, it probably comes out even.

Tom,

Thanks so much for your suggestion about Atlantic City. Just booked through Spirit. $200 per ticket. Atlantic City is only a 15 minute difference than Newark. Sooo, not only did I save a bundle on the flight, but I got direct flights, no stop overs. And with 6 tickets and 4 kids I could use all the help I can get.

Thanks

I think you will enjoy the "smallness" of the Atlantic City airport - especially with children. There is so much less hassle than at the bigger airports. Someone previously posted about the parking for $3.50 a day. It's a steal! Up until recently, parking was free...but..it's much nicer now. I would suggest using a credit card and swiping as you enter and leave. Otherwise you have to get a ticket when you enter the lot and then upon return you must pay at a machine INSIDE the airport . I saw a lot of confused people there last month..several had lost their little papers..others forgot to pay INSIDE the airport and had t o go back. Someone at the airport had advised using credit card...it was MUCH easier!

Hello lizzie64- Too bad your still don't live closer to Long Island. Southwest out of Islip is offering 49.00 each way until Sept. 29. At that price you could save 600.00. You could save a lot of money and have an excuse to visit some old friends on the Island.
