Does anyone have any suggestions for places to eat on HHI that are inexpensive? Sort of like the counter-serve places at WDW vs. sit-down. I'm starting to make a list of recommended places to eat, and so far all the resturaunts I've heard of are rather expensive. We're really not wine list, live music kind of people.

There is the Hilton Head Diner. It's a qucik car ride from the resort. It's a family type/sit down restaurant with prices that are not outrageous.

There's a Cracker Barrel. You could consider getting several take out meals from them, and just heating them up back at your villa for dinner.

There's a pizza/pasta place called Giusseppe's (I think..) that is near the resort that delivers and is really good and reasonable.

I liked the burgers at Freddie Fudruckers, it's just a couple of minutes from the resort. I also though the Mexican that is in the harbour area just over the bridge from the resort was good value and pretty decent food, it's not exactly counter service, but it's decent value. There are KFC, BK and MCDs in the area and I think Pizzahut.

The resort has a counter service place right near the general store. It's open for breakfast and lunch. There's also a lunch counter at the beach house. I enjoyed both places, and you really couldn't get more convenient. Be sure to pick up some of the local magazines and brochures. They have tons of eating suggestions, usually with sample menus, prices and directions included.

Check out Captain's Seafood right past HH Diner near Sheltor Cove. Lunch is served until 4, and we get an adult popcorn shrimp dinner with FF and cole slaw and split it between my two kids. It is around $7 or $8 and the portion for this is large. Sandwiches are also reasonable. The shrimp that we had over New Years were larger than popcorn size. I have also called ahead and picked up to go dinners and taken them to the resort. They also have a seafood market where you can buy the seafood uncooked and cook it yourself. At night you get a vegetable, salad, and potato, but the prices go up at least $2 and you do not get any more seafood. The TV station there still has dining half price certificates. You can no longer order these over the Internet, but they are available. When we were there over New Years, they had HH Diner and about ten other restaurants. Don't remember which ones. Oh and don't forget Wild Wings. We love to get take outs from there. And there is a Papa Johns which delivers and you can easily drive to the mall and go in the back way to the food court. A few cheaper choices are there.

Don't know if you're familiar with Atlanta Bread Company, but there's now one of those up near the Wal-Mart. Great soups and sandwiches!

Thanks for the suggestions. Not familiar with Atlanta Bread Co., sounds good. Papa John's I know-DS delivers pizza for them in our town in the summer. Those sound more our "speed" (translation-price range!)

HH diner, Dunes Pizza (across 278 from Shelter Cove), Wild Wings (best wings I ever had). There are any number of early bird and special discounts that can make moderate places rather inexpensive. HH has a restaurant guide with menu's and it lists early bird specials. Overall, I don't find HH that expensive and we come from an area where meals are relatively inexpensive compared to most of the cities in the country.

I can give a lot of ideas, more after the first of Febuary after we return from two weeks there, for adults. Since we are empty-nesters we don't have the restrictions that those that travel with kids have.

You can go to Tony Ramons during happy hour and get things like 25 cent potato skins, chicken tenders, or hot wings.

Aunt Childada has a happy hour special during the week, like two tacos for $2.00.

The Holiday Inn down by the Beach House has a special heavy o'dourve buffet on Friday nights for about $3.00 a person when you can get roast beef, cheeses, fruits, crackers, and chips while you listen to live music.

Most of these places serve drinks or you have to sit in the bar to get the specials, that's why I discourage the activity for children.

I'll second the motion for Captain's Seafood (almost next door to the Hilton Head Diner). We go to HH often and I never miss the oyster roll there. The dinners, even though a little more than lunches, are still a bargain. They also make excellent chowder-type soups that we take home and have for lunch.

Another vote for Giuseppe's... great pizza and subs. They also have pasta dishes, but we didn't try those. Enjoy!!
