Hi there, I have a question regarding eating in the parks and resorts. We will be going to Disney in July for a week with the Fairtale Package. Even though we know the package deal is a good one we worry about the food. It's my husband and myself with our three children. Any suggestions regarding eating cheap in the parks. We are staying at the Port Orleans resort. This is our first time staying on site. We usually stay off site to save money but we didnt have luck with good hotels. Anyway any suggestions for good cheap buffets or resturants will be greatly appreciated. Thanks Lynnie:earsgirl:

Maybe I am getting jaded by WDW prices, but I really didn't think some of the prices were that bad this last trip. We try to save money by eating a LATE lunch at a good restaurant. We are DVC members, DC members, and AP holders, so sometimes we can get discounts.

Most places have a burger/fries meal for around 6.00. We carried our own water bottles so we didn't have to pay for drinks.

A good site for menus and prices is wdwig.com - click on dining.

Trails End Buffet at the Ft Wilderness Campground! They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner and have reasonable prices. You have to take a boat from MK to get there, or take a bus from a park.

Tusker House and Flame Tree BBQ in Animal Kingdom both have an interesting menu and serve large portions. At Tusker House a half a chicken with mashed potatoes and fresh veggies is $7.99.

Cosmic Ray's at the MK has a good variety at reasonable prices. A family dinner of chicken and potatoes which serves 4 is $15.99.

If you are adventurous, try lunch at Restaurant Akershus in Epcot's Norway. It's all you can eat for $13.99 for adults, $5.99 for kids.

At the CBR they sell some food items in the gift shop. They had Thomas's bagels, bread, peanut butter and jelly and Entemenns donuts and cakes. They probally have similiar items ay Port Orleans. You can buy one bagel at the food court for approx. $2.40, or you can buy 6 in the gift shop for $2.60. One day I spent about $18 in there and we had breakfast and lunch for two days. The prices on drinkes are cheaper in there also.

If we are eating onsite or in the parks we definetly try to make our "big sit-down" meal lunch. The prices are cheaper. Then we eat counter service for dinner. Or sometimes we order a pizza for dinner, not sure who will deliver to POR but someone must. A pizza or 2 will still be cheaper than another full dinner. We are usually still half full from a big lunch anyhow. Also, the number one food budget saver we do is to never eat breakfast out. It would cost my family of 3 over $50.00 for breakfast out each time. I can buy cereal, donuts, bagels, milk, fruit, and granola bars for the whole trip for less than $50.00.

I agree with the other posters. When we are trying to save $$, we take cereal bars along to munch on in the AMs, eat a hearty lunch at the fancy restaurants, and look for something tasty at a "faster" food place - not necessarily counter service, but less expensive. Also, we carry a couple of water bottles to cut down on all those extra sodas. Between skippping breakfast costs and drinking our own water, we can usually splurge on a night time fancy dinner (CG is a fave!)

We also share entrees, often. The entrees at most places are huge, and the servers are always accomodating. We share desserts, too - everyone enjoys trying a variety of things.
