Does anyone know if they charge you more to pick-up at one location and dropping off at another? We are trying to get a rental car at west palm beach and dropping it off at ft Lauderdale in April. The prices are around $500 with fees. The price would be around $225 with fees if we picked up and dropped off at ft Lauderdale. Is it because WPBeach is an exclusive area? We are flying into there because I saved around $100 on flights and now it's going to cost me so much extra with a car. I am so agrivated. Thanks for any suggestions.

Yes, many companies have a one-way fee and charge more to drop off at a different location.

I've seen deals for especially that situation, though.

I think maybe booking via SW I saw one recently? I know I saw it somewhere but can't remember where. Try the transportation forum to see if there are any discount codes.

thanks I will. I can get a car for only $150 week if I drop off and pick up at the same location. Once I do both, it's up to $400 week. I hope it changes. I did everything to get cheap flights and now going to have to spend so much more for a rental. I should of looked into it before I booked the flights but I remember my sister having different rental car locations a while back and she got a cheap rental.

Usually, but not always, within Florida there is no drop-off fee. That may also vary by agency. Also, even though there may not be a specific drop-off fee, you may find the rates to be higher than a roundtrip rental. Also, sometimes coupons will not work if the return is to a different location than the pickup. All that being said, sometimes I've seen one way rentals lower..maybe there's a need to get cars to the return location. So, the only way to find out is to plug in your dates and see what happens, and of course, keep checking as the date gets closer.

Generally yes, but sometimes you can get a deal if you are returning the car to a "busy" location (airport, ship port, etc.) For example, last January I got two one-way rentals. One from WDW to Port Canaveral before our cruise and one from Port Canaveral to MCO. Each one-way rental was about $50.

I just checked dollar rent a car. It was $494 for the week for the cheapest car they have.:scared1: It's strange how rental car companies work. The two airports are around an hour from each other. It's in the same state, so don't know why it's so much higher. I will keep looking. I might go with Hotwire. You have to prepay but seems like I can get a week for around $250 total.
