*****Instead of plain old string to guess the "girth" of mom. Get a nice piece of satin ribbon... colored pink or blue if you know... or a mixed colored one if you don't... and have guest sign their names on it. Then have it held around the mom to be... guest whose name is closest to where it meets wins a small prize. IMPORTANT, do NOT tell guests that is what they are doing. It makes a wonderful keepsake of the mom's day!
Also, a variation is to not only have them sign their name, but write a note of advice.
*****Melt 10 different candy bars in the micro and spread the goo onto diapers. Number them 1-10 and keep a list for yourself of which diaper has which candy bar melted inside. Then have guests try to guess the candy bar "poo" in each. Makes for some GREAT photos as guests can smell the diapers for clues (NO EATING!) LOL
*****Diaper stack buy a BIG bag of diapers for mom to be. Then have guests take turns stacking them as tall as they can... (good to do while everyone is eating lunch as it takes tme)
*****Playdough Fun Make pink and blue playdough before shower. Seperate into teams of 4 or so... give each group a wad of playdough some of each color, set the timer for 10-15 minutes. The group is supposed to make as many things for or about baby, stuff, babies themselves etc. Then the mom to be chooses the team who has the best quality items. It's so fun to see grown women really getting into PLAYDOUGH! They LOVED it!!!!!
*****Onezies... buy onzies or socks or washclothes... enough for everyone to have one. Then buy fabric markers. Have each guest decorate an item as a gift for baby... everyone loves it and some are very creative.
Have fun! I LOVE baby showers! I have recenly planned 5!
I love floating a rubber ducky in the punch bowl... A corsage made out of lacy baby socks and a teeting ring is fun...
Money Saving tips... try ebay for bigger items... often you can get brand new items for much less.
Hold a couples shower where the only gifts are diapers and then watch a game or something and have snacks.
Ask everyone in their shower invites to bring as many coupons (non expired) for baby items that they can... person with most wins a small prize... I love a coin purse as this prize. The coupons can go to mom to be.
Have some sticky labels at the shower, cut apart. Have each guest write their name and address on it. Then when mom to be is doing Thank yous, all she'll have to do is stick it on... no searching!!! I tell ladies what it is for so when they get them in the mail they don't think... hmmm, I wrote this! I use them as door prize slips... draw one and winner gets a prize.
I LOVE the Dollar stores as places for prizes. I get all my stuff there.
Have fun!
