Chatterbox Thread-Cmon in and Jabber! Everyone is Welcome!

It has recently come to my attention that in order to work at the Walmart near my office, you must be required to pass a stupid test in order to work there.

As I wind my way thru the produce section I notice a huge bin of oranges for 64 cents each. 10 feet away is another pile for 68 cents each and 2 feet away from that is a pile for 68 cents per pound. They all have the same label code, so I know they are identical. So I politely inquire of the person stocking vegetables how much the oranges cost...she points to a sign. I then tell her that there are 3 different prices on the orange signs. She tells me to pick whichever price is cheapest. So I ask what will they charge me at the register? I am informed that I will have to check out in order to determine how much the oranges cost. She has no idea what they will charge me, but most likely it will be one of the 3 prices. At that point I hand her back my bag of oranges and tell her "no, most likely it won't be one of those 3 prices".

Fast forward to the checkout register where I bring my own bags. I put a large bag with many smaller bags on the belt first. The cashier proceeds to dig thru the bag like she's looking for something.:confused3 I politely ask if she's looking for something and she looks up and says (I kid you not!) "what are these"? I say, I bring my own grocery bags, she smiles and says, sorry I was confused for a minute. :confused3 OK, whatever. I then put all my non-refrigerated items on the belt. I follow that up with a silver cold/hot bag, then finally all my refrigerated items. Now mind you my silver bag is a little dirty and ratty looking, nobody in their right mind would confuse it for a new bag. She tries to scan it and charge me for it!:lmao: I inform her that I already own that bag and it's for the refrigerated items that follow.

My refrigerated items consist of 3 hams, bacon, yogurt, cheese, lunch meat, etc...Yet she reaches clear over those items and puts my dozen eggs in the bottom of the bag. She continues stacking items on top of the eggs until she realizes she probably about ready to crush the eggs and hands me the bag about half full. I say I need to have all the refrigerator items in this bag please. She said, but I don't want to squish the eggs...at which point I politely smile and say, why don't we put the eggs on top and they won't get squished. Oh, good idea she says!

Note: this person did NOT have a trainee tag on.:scared1::laughing:

I'm all for providing workers with a living wage. But do you count as alive if you only seem to have half a brain?:confused3:laughing:

To be fair, there are some nice, competent people that work at that Walmart. I just managed to find two of the dumbest ones today.

Alison I agree with Rochelle and Megan. Those kinds of deals always sound fishy to me. I also belong to an Army wives board from when shane was in and deployed and I still belong because a lot of those gals are my friends and got me through his deployment but EVERY so often we get someone that has some hard luck story like that and you feel so bad for them but the mods have even warned us NOT to fall for it that 99% of the time it is a scam. Not saying that is the case with your friend but it's just not a good idea. I just don't like to loan ANYTHING to people because it just never seems to work out. I have let people borrow clothes, books, various household items and I have hardly EVER gotten them back and it just leaves a bad taste in my mouth and I think like the rest of us on here we are all in bad financial straights but I don't think any of us would feel comfortable asking anyone else for money.

The ONLY person I have EVER borrowed money from was my mom or grandma and I have always paid them back but I would be mortified to even ASK anyone else. I would just pretend like you never got the message or if you really want to reply perhaps say that as much as you would like to help her out you can't financially right now but then maybe suggest the book? I don't know just a thought but you can make the ultimate decision.

I hate being even PUT in those awkward positions. Good luck!!!

And Rochelle, yeah I can't WAIT to see the premier next week of Fringe!!! I really want Olivia and Peter to get together and I just LOVE Walter so much. He is so cooky but I love that about him. GREAT show!!!

I need some ideas for a costume. I am running a 5K on October 23rd and it's Halloween themed. They are giving prizes for the top 3 finishers in each age group as well as prizes for the best costumes. I don't think I'll be the fastest in my age group so I want to go in a great costume. A 5K is only 3.1 miles but I still need something that I can run in. So...any ideas? :confused3

Morning and happy Friday!

Wow Sarah that is a tough one because thinking of a costume that you can still run in and is comfortable!! Hmmmm maybe the others would be better on this one. I could think of lots of fun stuff but not anything that would be easy to run in or you wouldn't get hot. That's awesome that you are doing more runs!! Def take pics. Love to see them!!

I am off to work today and Shane is back to work FINALLY although not sure how long it is going to last. They put him on a job that has to be done in 2 days and it is a long story but it is practically impossible what they are asking. They expect him to do 1000 feet of footage in 2 days with quarry tile and that is basically impossible to do so he is not thrilled. Glad to be working again obviously but of course he goes back to nightmare situations. I just hope that he doesn't do the 2 days and then is BACK off again!!! I guess we will just have to wait and see.

The girls have their game tomorrow and then Shelby was invited to a friends on Sunday and sometime this weekend I promised Katy I would take her to spend her gift cards from last weekend and I need to do some more shopping for the halloween exchange. NONE of our stores have had hardly anything out so far except candy so I am having a heck of a time getting much.

Anyway then next week is school pics so we are getting together with my mom probably monday night so she can trim up the girl's hair. Other than that not much else going on for a bit.

Hope everyone has a great Friday and has some fun plans for the weekend!!

Make yourself a bag of Jelly Belly jelly beans. It's cheap and easy.

Get a large clear plastic trash bag. Use markers and write Jelly Belly's across the front and decorate it. Blow up tons of little round balloons in all different colors. Cut out head & arm holes. Duct tape the bottom of it to the waist of your shorts. Stuff the little balloons in the head hole. Voila, you're a bag of Jelly Belly's. Simple, easy, cheap, lightweight and you can throw away when done. Maybe find some cute colorful socks to go with it or a funky colorful hat.:thumbsup2

I'm not too worries about getting hot because Wrightwood (where the 5K is) already cold for me. :rotfl: Even though it's only about 15 minutes away from where I live it's up in the mountains and it is so much colder up there than at my house.

This could work..off to google pictures of jelly bean costumes.

B hope you start feeling better!!

Thanks, I am finally! yesterday was a grumbly mess of URGH- just-let-me-beat-my-head-into-this -wall- for-awhile followed with a calgon take me away as I really can't handle this right now! Today was a bit better..

Bernice, you just keep working on those bus schedules. I have no doubt in my mind that you could find a way to get from MN to WA for under $5 using multiple transfers on every public transit system across the US.:lmao:

Well there is Megabus that occasionally has $1 fares :rolleyes1 But it goes the wrong way into Chicago and further east. Darn!

I knew there was an upside to just fighting and staying married to the same man for 21 years.:lmao: After about 15 years we finally ran out of things to fight about, all of our issues had either been solved or one of us just got tired and gave up.

Think about it, an organization that pairs together Hoarders with OCD people! Brilliant.
:lmao: Isn't that the truth? Eloy and I are to the point we don't need to talk out loud, I sit behind the laptop and from the dialysis chair he replies "You think so?" .. I didn't say anything yet! .. Creepy!

Confession Time...I'm ashamed to admit it but I collect episodes of Hoarders.

I'm embarassed and ashamed to admit this, but a couple of weeks ago I had to call 911 to extract me from my bedroom. I was literally trapped behind a stack of Hoarders tapes and couldn't get out. I live in fear every day that a huge pile of Hoarders tapes will fall on one of my children and smother them. I know that I could stop the cycle if only I could start collecting something else...something like cleaning supplies, garbage sacks and the phone number for the Salvation Army (cuz we all know it's going to take an entire army to help me stop hoarding the Hoarders!).

okay then
so uhhh how much medication are you on these days??

B. wipe that Diet Coke off the screen now. Besides, why are you laughing? We all know you hoard coupons, hundreds & hundreds of coupons. If that's not the start of a hoarder, then I don't know what is? Ya gotta ask yourself, "how many razors, bottles of shampoo & toothpaste do I really need in 1 lifetime"?LOL.

Actually it's regular Coke now, eliminated artificial sweeteners. And yep coupon and deal hoarding was something I had to resolve when I started running out of room. I got into giving things to everyone, until now.. I hardly have any thing for me! Feeds back into the coupon harding, deal finding cycle yet again. :thumbsup2

BTW, who collects tapes? Everyone knows that DVR is the way to go now. ;)

Does Bernice hoard expired coupons too? ;)
No no no.. digital is the way to go. Download to a portable hard drive, no fear of overcrowding your computer.

Why yes I do! I can use up to 3 months expired!

I'm in a lot of trouble right now arent' i?:scared1:

But you know I love you guys, right, right, right...hello, is anybody there?:rotfl2:

I'm going to catch heck for this aren't I?

:rotfl: Thanks for the laugh!

She sent out a letter (with a personal note to each person at the top) to all of her friends on FB asking for $2,100. She's about to declare bankruptcy and tells us that each month she is short about $500 on paying all of her bills. Yada, yada.

Now remember, it's not like I'm a good close friend. But still I feel guilty. I know I shouldn't, but I do. She wants a loan, but I don't loan money to friends...ever. Would I be out of place to send her a book of Dave Ramsey's Total Money Makeover? Would that just make her mad? Do I even care if I make her mad? Or should I just ignore the entire thing?

I agree with Megan, that is beyond tacky!
Ignore and delete is just fine. Or take the route of "sorry you are having a hard time, have you looked into....." and list some resources. Sending her the book might piss her off, but maybe she needs that as a wake up call. And I agree, it's only just her.. why is she having such a hard time? Is she supporting her grown up kids like my MIL? We got tired of trying to help MIL, told her stop helping them! "oh but I can't do that.. he needs me"
Fine, then don't complain about how you can't afford this and that. We may be broke, but we don't whine and make others feel bad. Life sucks for lots of people right now, suck it up and deal.

I get a monster headache around 3pm every day. Its called the JulieAlexKayleeJazzyVinnyDaddy meltdown.

Arsenic hour! Trying to get dinner ready, everyone wants your attention and some clueless telemarketer innocently calls "for a moment of your time" and gets blasted by you venting your frustration!

I come home every night and my house clears out, seriously, they run outside, in their bedroom, out to the garage. They know I will put them to work helping with dinner and chores, so they disappear. If one of them accidentally comes within my line of sight I holler out "hey can you..." and they quickly turn away and pretend they don't hear me.

Awesome!

To be fair, there are some nice, competent people that work at that Walmart. I just managed to find two of the dumbest ones today.

Not surprised that she was trying to charge for your bags. I read a blog somewhere about crazy Walmart experiences. The person had lost their sunglasses in the store, came back a few weeks later and found his old scratched up glasses... marked with a tag for $19.99 :lmao:

As for squished product, half full or over full bags.. That is the reason I like to bag my own groceries.

The grocery stores here don't have baggers. Totally messed me up in California, I had a worker yell at me "stop doing my job" .. sorry I didn't know!
We shoo away the high school teams doing bagging as a fundraiser, cash? Who the heck has cash? No no go away.. I have no money for you !

Even at Super Target, E tells the cashier we will bag it ourselves. Goes so much faster! (bring your own bags and get 5¢ off your order per bag!) I can understand helping the older and disabled people, but really I don't need or want help.

Last time the cashier at Rainbow "helped" resulted in someone taking my stuff by mistake. Hope they enjoyed my deal on toilet paper. :sad2:

:rolleyes1:rolleyes1:rolleyes1:rolleyes1

There she was right a-walkin' down the street,
Singin', Do wah Diddy diddy dumm Diddy do
Snappin' her fingers and shufflin' her feet,
Singin', Do wah Diddy diddy Dumm Diddy do
She looked good, LOOKED GOOD
She looked fine, LOOKED FINE
She looked good, she looked fine
And I nearly lost my mind

For some reason this song popped into my head this afternoon...and it's stuck there! So thought I would copy and paste it out of my brain and give it to you...ENJOY!:rotfl2:

I hate the Walmart bagging area, almost impossible to load your own groceries. I just let them put them in the bags and then rearrange each one. (Here comes my OCD again!:lmao:).

We have baggers here, but not at Winco or Walmart. Most of the other stores have them. When I was going thru chemo & after surgery's I appreciate it, but otherwise I hate it.

At least she didn't try to charge me for my Fred Meyer grocery bags.:rotfl2: She did however try to charge me for the big silver hot/cold bag. I think most all of the stores have those bags, so I could see the mistake...well that is if the bottom of it wasn't all scuffed, torn and dirty looking.:sad2:

Staley- Wow! Your SIL already has a man? That's so fast! :rotfl: :thumbsup2

Kelly- I hope that your DH's work schedule improves.

Hello to everyone else
2jg87x2.jpg

Morning and happy Saturday!!

Well yesterday was a bit crazy as I suspected it would be. I really hadn't been at work all week because I went in on Tuesday but only stayed a short time because I was sick and then I went in yesterday but we didn't really have any money to pay bills with (what else is new!!) so I just had to pay a FEW things that I could and had to push everything else off till next week cuz we are hopefully getting some checks in then!! But anyway orig mom and I were going to go to lunch and catch up and then call on our DW stuff because she is supposed to make her final payment I think this next week but her printer wasn't working and she was having a BAD day. She had a project come due and had an apt at 1 to show property so I ended up just leaving. Sometimes it is better to just get out of there when things get stressful cuz it is NOT a fun place to be when it is like that.

Anyway then I had to run to 2 banks and then home. I really hadn't planned on going anywhere last night but I had forgotten to lay anything out for dinner when I left for work and when Shane got home no one could decide what they wanted to do and so I decided I would take Katy out to shop with her gift cards tonight instead of sunday. Usually I don't like to go on weeknights cuz I am tired after working but I didn't feel like sitting around so we did. Well JUST as I was walking out of the house dh tells me that he was going to help our neighbors ex with this car situation. It is a LOOONG story but my neighbor and somewhat friend (we were best friends for YEARS since childhood but have kind of drifted apart for a lot of reasons) she was in a weird relationship for about 16 years. They are east indian and they were married in the temple but never had a civil ceremony so weren't "legally" married. They NEVER actually lived together because he was a marine stationed in LA and she lived here because this is where her job is. Anyway it is a long weird story but they split up a few years back and it has been UGLY. Well she won't let him on the property and Shane still talks to the guy which I am not thrilled about because not only was SHE my best friend for years but she is also our next door neighbor and this guy has NEVER even lived here plus he really doesn't even KNOW Shane that well and infuriates me that Shane is insisting on trying to be friends with this guy when he knows it is causing so many problems. He is getting in the middle of this thing and I guess last night my neighbor went balistic. The ex asked Shane to go pick up his car that has been sitting on her property and she doesn't really like Shane because he is talking to the ex and so she went OFF on him. Brought her brother-in-law over and I am just glad I wasn't home! Luckily Shane FINALLY is getting it and called the ex back and told him he couldn't do it. But this is AFTER they had a huge scream fit and poor shelby was there seeing this whole thing! :(

SOOO stupid! UGH! Like I said I am just glad I wasn't home cuz I would have been really po'd that this whole thing even happened. I have wanted us to stay out of it this entire time!

Anyway Katy and I had a great time though. I took her to walmart first because she had a gc for there and she was able to get another book from the same author that wrote the percy jackson series which she LOVES. AND I found this thing that shelby wants for christmas that I have been searching EVERYWHERE for so that was a score!!

Then we went to target and Katy got some little kiddie makeup stuff. That is her new obsession. And NO I don't let her wear makeup yet but she likes to "play" with it and I do let her have those little lip glosses that taste like bubble gum or soda or whatever but she is def turning into a diva LOL and is all into it. But I also did some more shopping for the halloween exchange and although they seemed to have most of their stuff they just didn't seem to have NEARLY the stuff they used to have so although I think I am done I just didn't feel like I was able to get as much or as fun of stuff as before but I got the allotted amount and I am just glad to be done cuz I have gone out like 4 times now!! So at least I can get it mailed off next week!!

Anyway then we ran over to the mall and had some chinese food and did some window shopping and it was fun to just have some mom and daughter time. I very rarely get to spend any time with just one of them so it was nice!

Anyway today is our soccer game and then tomorrow Shelby is going to a friend's house and we MAY go looking at tires. I desperately need some for my car as they are pretty bald and I have money set aside for it so I need to get it done! Just not looking forward to the whole ordeal. Plus I found out I have a tailight out and then last night one of my console lights in my shifter went out! GREAT! I don't even KNOW what it will take to fix that. It may have to STAY that way LOL.

Anyway hope everyone has a good day and talk soon!

Rain, rain go away, come again another day (or not).

DH's company picnic was today. We arrived at 11 am, weather was great, by 2:30 the rain had set in and the picnic ended early. I ate way too much. But we had fun and won a few prizes...2 packages of oreo cookies, decks of cards, chapsticks, toys, tub of candy, etc...All in all a good day and had fun.

However, I ate WAY too much.:rotfl2: My tummy hurts. DS entered a mini-cupcake eating contest. They each got 6 mini cupcakes and had to eat them as fast at they could. He didn't win, but it was still fun to watch.

Came home, tried to take a nap; got woke up by a helicopter. Sometimes they run the military helicopters from Ft. Lewis (near Megan's, south of Seattle) to Portland and I swear their path follows I-5, apparently right over the top of my house. And of course since I'm up on a hill they seem to fly 2 feet over my roof! (Well that's a bit of an exageration, but it sounds like it!).

I think I ate so much junk food and crap that I'm just tired and lethargic this evening....bleech!

Not that my age bothers me and I don't really feel that old. But there are so many young people at DH's workplace. Lots of 20 somethings with babies and kids. I've gotta say though, I enjoy the fact that I can sit and relax at the picnic and not worry about where my kids are or what they are doing. Plus I can go thru the buffet line with only 1 plate in my hand.:thumbsup2

One lady was talking about college classes and how difficult economics was. Come to find out she was taking an online class. She asked me if I had taken economics online or in a class....uhhhh, the internet had not been invented when I was in college.:rotfl2: That turned a few heads.

We're quite happy being past that stage of parenting. Now it's just a matter of wondering what time they will be home and they aren't doing anything stupid. :lmao:

I marvel sometimes on how much technology has progressed in my lifetime. It's quite amazing.
Eloy took evening classes as an "alternative student" for a short time back when Justin was a babe. They met once a week and had video tapes to watch of the lectures. The early version of online?

The boys' high school is testing hybrid classes this year, majority of the class is online work with meetings as a group once a week before or after school.

They also have some high level AP classes that meet during the school day PLUS have online work.

It's about time! I wish they had offered an online only class in the summer for the state required one semester classes (like health and economics). Those one semester classes tend to screw up the schedules of those taking music and language, there is just no room in the day with all the other requirements. Health was offered in summer, to the tune of $300 out of my pocket  umm nooooo that's okay.... he is taking it now in his senior year.

MN has a public virtual school elementary thru high school. In the high school levels they can do job shadowing and other out in the world activities to get credits. The gym classes at the Y or other community ed. Great for kids who have health or mental illness issues where being in a big school would be too much. Or rural area where it is difficult to get to school. (I know Lake of the Woods area they take boats in fall, snowmobiles and special sheds with snow tracks in winter over the lakes). But I wonder if virtual school would be socially isolating?

Yikes Kelly on the neighbor/ former friend/ ex ordeal. Sounds like one of those things where you get sucked in and then realize much too late that you have to distance yourself from the situation. Glad your dh figured it out but now makes it hard living next door to the seething angry volcano waiting to blow up! Hopefully it will all simmer down soon.

No more socially isolating then the DIS.:rotfl2: I did take a couple of tv classes, you got to watch the shows on the public television channel (or go to the library if you missed them or didn't tape them), mail in or drop off your homework twice a month and then go in to take midterm and finals. That was really high-tech back then.
