when my middle son started school the teacher knew he had sep.anxiety so she had me cut a square from one of my shirts , (or fav blanket)...it was small and he put it in his pocket...when he would miss me he put his hand in his pocket and would hold it...

Oh noooo! :guilty:

Shawna, did YOU talk with the teacher to ask for help with Jake on Monday? I know she'll have her hands full, but maybe she's got some tips.

Basically what I remember from daycare drop-offs, you want to keep your drop-off as quick as possible, don't linger and don't cave in to their unreasonableness. Remind them when you are coming back to get them (is it after lunch? After recess? Some kind of time marker for him) and be as confident and cheerful as possible.

Maybe there will be another neighbor kid in his class? Even if it's a girl, it will be someone he knows.

DS4 was crying and very clingy at the preschool drop-off at the beginning of the school year last year, and it broke my heart. But I knew (having gone through many daycare drop-offs with DS7) that it's a very brief phase they go through.

I sobbed my way through DS4's first day at preschool, then rushed to the school to pick him up. He was totally happy by then, of course (and I'd had a terrible 2.5 hours myself!) The next day he still cried but not as hard, and by the 3rd day it was like he was just putting on a show for my benefit, he really just wanted to go play with the kids. :rotfl:

Jake will be fine, kindergarten is very much like preschool so the routine will be familiar to him. I would have been nice to have a little 1-on-1 with the teacher beforehand so Jake could have said hi and spoken to her a bit. Ah, well. It may be bumpy on Monday, but it will get better!

His first year of preshool they had to pry him off of me every day. Even at the end of the year he would still cry but was better within 10 minutes of picking him up.

2nd year of preschool he just sailed right in. Such a different boy but then he started to regress and cry a little in the middle of the year. He got over that.

he really wanted Morgan's old teacher but she isnt there this year. I think he was very overwhelmed with the amount of people that were there tonight. Basically its our whole neighborhood (at least the ones with K-8 year old kids) which most have. It was chaotic at best. His teacher talked to him a tiny bit in the hallway but he would have nothing to do with her and ran away as she would approach. She backed off and talked to me about it. I told her he is the type of kid that needs hugs and that warm cuddly comforting feeling in school. She said she is that type of teacher definitely and I could see it because she was a sub in Morgans class one day and remembered her and hugged her immediately.

She also said her son didnt want to go to kindergarten last year so she is familiar with how to deal with it. I know she is going to have to drag or carry him in sobbing hysterically on Monday. I just dont know if I can take that. I knew his preschool teachers very well.

I'm having a hard time with this but I'm not letting it show in front of him and trying to be very encouraging. I think we wont talk about it this weekend and have fun and see how it goes on Monday. If I mention kindergarten now he starts to cry.

Now that is a GREAT idea.

Oh and unfortunately he knows no one in his class or kindergarten. All of his little friends go to different schools.

yea well you listen to that cd over and over and over...:rotfl: there were 2 or 3 songs she loved one was about going down to the river....i had to hide it from her for a while...geeezzzzzzz:rotfl2:

My mom used to drive me NUTS as a kid with her old fashioned love songs and Neil Diamond. Geezus beans! There is only so much Dear John and Porcupine Pie a person can take! :rolleyes1

Oh, you DID get to talk with her about it! Oh, I'm so glad!

1. She's aware of the issue, and will be sensitive to it.
2. She knows he's a cuddler, and so is she! Bonus!
3. Her son was the same as Jake, so she probably has some tricks up her sleeve.

It's nice too that Morgan already knows her. Maybe she can talk to Jake about how nice she is, and that she gives nice hugs?

I tell ya, times have changed since I was in kindergarten (and thank goodness!) My kindergarten teacher was an old battleaxe who yelled at me for pasting a caterpillar upside down on a folded sheet of paper. Can you imagine???

If I listen to J.Bros. one more time

I had a really sweet kindergarten teacher. I dont remember many other teachers through elementary school but I do remember her. She was so loving to all of us. Thank God Jake did not get the battleaxe!

Although with 17 boys maybe she should be. Here is the kicker. She said she has 5 boys at home so she is well equipped to handle the classroom. That made me feel much better. :lmao:

Yeah, I'm afraid DS4 will be in similar straits. Kids in his preschool are not from our neighborhood. But he does know a few kids in the neighborhood that are his age, because we've met them at the pool or through older siblings being in DS7's classes. I'm hoping at least one or two of these kids will wind up in his kindergarten class so I can say, "Ohhhhh look! So-and-so is in your class! You already know someone!"

We went to pay preschool tuition this week, and while we waited the director went to get his preschool teacher, who will be the same one as last year. DS4 was sooo excited to see her, and she gasped that he'd grown so much already! She gave him a big hug and he practically vibrated with happiness! :rotfl:

Then the director said the teacher's assistant from last year was also going to be in the same class next year (Wow! Two for two!) and she was there also. So she came out to see DS4 as well, and he gave her a hug. He was nearly beside himself with happiness, and I was so relieved! Hopefully the beginning of this school year will be much, much easier than last fall. She said many of the same kids will be in class as well, including his special buddy. :goodvibes

Wow. Five boys? You gotta admire/pity women like that. (My dad is the last of 5 boys.) :lmao:

All things considered, if you couldn't have Morgan's K teacher, it sounds like you really SCORED on the one you got. :thumbsup2

I took her to the Hanna M. concert , all she said was she wanted to go...so I got tickets...on the day of the concert I waited until she was home from school and told her to get ready and I told her....

I waded among screaming little girls, witnessed tweens being let off at the curb to see the concert in heels and mini skirts...

My ears were done from the girls when the J.Bros. came out...and then she was ready to leave....I was like are you kidding me?, she only wanted to see the boys:confused3

Why am I picturing Jake in the back of the class with a group of boys chewing on bubblegum cigars, dealing out cards and saying "Gentlemen, deuces are wild"??? :lmao:

That is a great idea. Oh, and at our old daycare, they had us bring in a family photo to post in their cubby so the child could see it throughout the day. Even if they can't post it at Jake's school, maybe you could give him little photo to keep in his jacket pocket or something?

I just wanna play my music!!!

I didnt even have to watch the video. I've seen that movie about 100 times thanks to DVR!

I do think the Jo Bros are talented though and i really enjoyed them in concert.

My sister bought my niece and one of her friends tickets to see the Jonas Brothers in concert.. They went a couple of weeks ago. She got blue highlights put in her hair... My sis was having a hard time with just dropping them off to go on their own, but she did it. My niece had a great time. :thumbsup2

Oh thats great for him! They only had one class at Jake's preschool so it was the same kids and same teacher both years. It worked out very well.

We saw some teenage boys doing this too. I thought it was odd that they were at a HM concert but they only came for the JoBros! :lmao:

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: Once he gets going this will totally be him! With all the boys in the class I'm really hoping he makes a ton of friends quickly.
