Can anyone recommend a nice campground that is near Chattanooga, TN? We are thinking of taking a weekend trip up there, but have no idea where to stay.
If your planning on sight seeing, we like the Best Holiday Travel Park (exit 1), we do not recommend the Cleveland/Chattanooga North KOA or the one connected with Camping World. I understand there are a couple more CG west of the city but we have never stayed there.
I agree with Dave (mnsprk) above. Best Holiday is a great base camp for exploring the area.
If you are more interested in a woodsy camping experience, you might want to look elsewhere. Lots of people like Racoon Mountain, which is quite close to downtown Chattanooga as well. If you want a state park atmosphere and don't mind being further out, Cloudland Canyon is supposed to be very nice.
I highly recommend Cloudland Canyon but it would be a long drive to get into Chattanooga everyday. We've also stayed at Raccoon Mountain and found it to be ok for our needs.
The Best Holiday park is fine, however, just beware, that the area it is in is not the greatest of areas.
We live about 15 mins. from Chattanooga, and we go to Chesterfrost Park all the time. Love it, and it right on the lake. It would be about 20 mins. from downtown Chattanooga. The Best Holiday park is about 10-15 mins.
Cloudland Canyon is nice, and it isn't a bad drive to downtown Chattanooga either, and you can hike down to the waterfalls, which are so pretty! That is about 15 mins. from where I live also! You will love it there. We are planning a camping trip there as soon as we buy a new camper. Enjoy!
