Chastity Bono changing gender

I hope it brings Chastity a sense of peace. Feeling wrong in your body must be a really difficult thing to live with.

I think that Cher is very honest when revealed in her bio her true feelings she had when she first learned Chastity was gay:

Cher tells "My response to Chastity being Gay was very un-Cher like. I didn't know what to do and who to turn to, I was devastated! The funny thing is I knew all along that she was gay, I just didn't want to admit it." Cher's current relationship with her daughter is extremely strong and Cher admits she has learned to except her daughter for who she is.

So, if she becomes a male, is she/he still gay? Was she/he ever really gay?

Disclaimer: I am not trying to start something. Just wondering.

Not to change the subject-but I never, ever hear anything about Cher's son=Elijah Blue???:confused3

I think she would not be considered gay. I don't think she would be considered straight either. I believe transgendered is it's own category when it comes to sexuality.

From my limited understanding, it seems Chastity was never really gay. Instead, "she" was probably transgendered, meaning he felt he was male born in the wrong (female) body. So "she" was really a straight male, all along.

That makes sense to me.

I'm glad to hear that Chastity is now going to be in the body that he belongs in. It must feel terrible to be trapped in a body that you know you don't belong in. He's also lucky to have a supportive mother.

I'm assuming that he'll be changing his name eventually; I wonder what it'll be. I just have a thing for names, and I find it interesting what names people choose in these kinds of situations and why. Sometimes, people choose a name similar to their birth name (ie: Kristina becomes Christopher), etc. I just find names particularly interesting.

Chase??? That's close and popular for males now, I think??

I think I'm probably 3 or 4 yrs. older than Chasity Bono. I am so old that I remember watching Chasity come out on stage during the show at about 3 or 4 yrs. of age. Gosh, I feel old.

I wish him peace. I think it takes guts to take your body through a transformation like that.

I hope her work as a gay and lesbian advocate isn't somehow tainted - from what I understand, the g/l community consider themselves "different" than transgendered people - transgender is not a sexual orientation transgendered persons have specific attractions to sexes. Being transgendered is related to gender identification and the roles of sex and gender.. Does that make sense, or is it too close to midnight for me to be posting?! So she came out several years ago as a "lesbian" but now says she's not a lesbian, she's really a straight guy in a woman's body. Okay now I am thouroughly confused!

Also, here is a quote from her about her realization she was a gay woman -
"Coming out is a process...and mine was a big process," Bono said. "I felt different. It was when I was 13 years old that I figured out I was gay." She said she figured it out while watching a film called Personal Best. "When I saw that love scene between two women, it clicked," she said to a chuckling audience.

I did hear she is changing her name to Chaz, which is what Cher has said when referring to her for the past several years.

I hope she finds happiness, I can't imagine living my entire life in search of my identity, which it seems she has. I hope this is what (s)he has been searching for.

I have a transgendered person very close to me. Male to Female.

She is a self proclaimed lesbian - I don't totally get it but since changing ones gender really has nothing to do with sexual tendencies and everything to do with identity then her sexual preference is a different issue all by itself.

When it came to her name the idea of something close to "his" name was not even in her realm of thinking. Her former identity was "dead" and she was starting over. Her name was well thought out and she consulted lots of friends, similar to naming a child.

I dislike it when people use the term Gender referring to Sex. Sex is what you physically are, Gender is what you identify as. You are supposed to call people as what they identify as, so you would call Chaz male. It's more polite.

Good for him! It will definitely make him happier in the long run, because now he will feel like he is in the right body. I hope the operation goes well for him!
