It seemed like this episode was designed to make Hawass appear to be a Major A. In my opinion, it was in no way flattering to Hawass. He was a jerk.

Wonder if Hawass had any editing oversight. Doesn't seem like he did.

I would say not. It was very unflattering. If he did, I would think that he would have had the part where the girl was mocking him edited out.

I saw it as a dedicated professional doing his best to deal with a bunch of jerks from Hollywood who are no doubt funding some of his research. I suspect that funding has a lot to do with him not chasing the idiots out of Egypt. Hey, the guy is responsible for 30,000 people working for him all over Egypt so he has a lot on his plate. You may have noticed he's a lot calmer when the crew from Hollywood isn't interfering with his work and responsibilities. I'd like to see the show start all over with a better film crew.

I don't believe the celebration/singing that set him off during the opening of the sarcophagus was due to the Hollywood idiots.

I think Hawass' behavior is typical of the glorified academics. They live in an insulated world and think they can treat people like poop.

I still think that when this series is over Dr. Hawass will be ready to toss that director and his crew into the nearest snake pit. I can't say I'd blame him, either. Rather than a glorified academic, I see him as someone who is passionate about his work.

Sorry I have to disagree. I spent 6 years in the academic world while getting my doctorate and I saw a lot of this behavior from (some) Professors. They live in an insulated world and create little fiefdoms and because they have tenure no one can touch them.

They can treat people like garbage and no one can say anything to them. Grad students don't dare stand up to them because that can get you drummed out of the university. Post-docs live in even more fear because they will need the Professors recommendation to obtain a real job.

Yes he is passionate but he is a jerk.

i finally got to watch this last night, and dr. hawass really came off as a pompous jerk, lol. however, i can see how it could happen, seeing as the entire world has to kiss his rear-end to get anywhere near an archaelogical site in egypt. that kind of power could turn even the nicest guy into an ******. i'm not sure i want to watch any more of it, but i was fascinated by the discovery of the mummy (which he ruined by screaming for everyone to be quiet).

Ok, so we finally watched it, DH & I. I thought it was the most ridiculous show ever ... all the screaming and yelling that one lead DR. was doing throughout the whole show. Zoe, I mean the parts where they do find some bones is amazing and the info the DR has on every artifact is fabulous ... like the bowl designed for drinking BEER ... very interesting BUT all the other nonsense I could totally do without. DH on the other hand has seen and read about Hawass, and despite him seeming rather pompous as momof1princess states (which ITA), DH says he will continue to watch it.

Ohhhh, DH & I both would sooooooooo love to go there as well.

Well if not for anything, just seeing the Pyramids and all the scenery on this show is worth continuing to watch, you know!!!

I agree with George. Zoe, the fellow Dr. to Hawass and the other female are deserved to be fired. Zoe was a moron to ask the fellow Dr. to go in and the Dr. was more of an idiot to take her in then let her "take photos when he left" Did he not check to see if they got out?

Zoe's stupid comment about how mean it was to move the people who were living above the mummies was wrong. Who does she think she is. Hawass told her they buy them another house. She is one stupid and stuck up witch.

Yes. I am now wondering how much of this show is scripted. It was strange and disturbing. He came off as a jerk who is cruel. His comment, "You will be punished later" was odd. If this was more scientific and less dramatic I would continue watching it. What they are doing is amazing and captures the imagination. You don't need the shouting and drama. This seems to be another, in a long line, of reality TV shows. The interns seemed as if they were acting and delivering their lines poorly. I was hoping for more from him.

Edited to say that I just googled the show and it seems that many people believe it is scripted and badly acted. I won't be watching it again.

What was with Zoe ... omg, what a LOSER ... "Dr. Hawass, I lost it" ... "I couldn't help it" ... oh bother ...

I am either folding laundry, finishing up the dishes or reading while this show is on as DH, despite the "drama" seems to enjoy this show ... ugh.

Seriously - they need to get rid of Zoe. Peeing in the pyramid? Give me a break. It is painfully obvious that she is an actress (and a BAD one). If they got rid of her, the show would be a million times better.

It's too bad--I think this could have been an interesting show but we found it just awful.

I know. I'll probably continue watching it just for the discoveries, though.
If somehow Zoe isn't an actress, she doesn't belong in archeology. She also needs to find something outside of acting.

we watched the other night...couldn't get through the whole show. For all the reasons mentioned thorughout this thread. He needs a chillpill--seems like a heart attack or stroke waiting to happen.
