Chase Visa Categories

Is there a way to view how your purchases are categorized (groceries, gas, etc) on the Chase website? I cannot find this info for either my Disney Visa or DH's Chase Freedom card, so I must be missing something.

Hi there,

I called Chase last year to ask them about this and they told me that they don't categorize the purchase. The store that you bought it from does. I personally don't think it's fair that Chase keeps this a "secret" from us. But, perhaps they think it's too much information to include on our statements under each qualifying purchase.

I was wondering the same thing. I just got the Chase Freedom and paid the$2000 bill a week ago and it shows 0 rewards...how long does it take for them to put the rewards on it?

The website below states 1-2 weeks after each statement, but it took much longer for me (around 1-2 months).

My statement ends on the 28th and my points credit on the 4th. I called to find out and she looked and told me which of my stores qualify as grocery.

The Year-End Summary will show the categories.
But I have not seen my purchases by category on a monthly basis.

I did know that the category depends on how the store registers with the CC companies, but I still don't see why they don't tell you. I know years ago DH had a CC that listed the category of the purchase in parenthesis on each line. How can you possibly know what purchases qualify for the 5% categories if they don't let you know how they categorize them?

For example, I figured out that our local gas station is not considered "gas" so during a bonus period for gas we should use the gas station in the town where we work to get the 5%. Of course this would be much easier if it was listed somewhere.

Thanks. I just looked over my year end summary for my Disney card. (Just recently got the Chase Freedom, so I didn't have that option on there)

Unfortunately, I still don't think it's helpful for figuring out how purchases are categorized for the bonus points. Like the gas station I mentioned above, on the year-end statement it's under "Gas & Convenience", but it didn't qualify for the 5% gas and DH was told that they must have themselves listed as "convenience" or something else.

On the bright side, I did see that from our last trip Disney restaurants were categorized as "restaurants" and not travel or something else. Our trip this year is during the gas (we're driving 2600 miles) and restaurants bonus period, so that will be nice.
