Chase Sapphire Reserve Rumored Change

I am semi-interested in the delta gold or platinum. But we got to Orlando the most right now, and from us the only direct flights are Southwest and Spirit. We only use Delta or others when we go to California or international. And Delta screwed us over realllly bad the last time we flew with them leaving us stranded in the LA airport overnight basically on the last leg of a very long trip and it has left a very bitter taste in my mouth towards them

But the gold seems pretty good with the bonus and the free first year worth of fees and we do own a DL contract now.... 🤣

Are you planning to go to DLR soon?
If not you might want the platinum/reserve as after a year you would have a companion ticket. The sign up bonuses are normally higher on the larger AF cards.

Downside of CP is it has to be booked with an AMEX (you could use AMEX platinum to get 5x on flights rather than delta Amex) and you can’t use points. You also can’t add someone to the booking although you can link the reservations. So if your party is more than 2 you could pay for the other(s) with points but unfortunately free bags is only for card member and who is on the reservation with them. If you are a party of 5 use CP for SO +1 and then card member + 2 on the other reservation to at least get 3 bags free.

Not super soon but less than a year. Have a VGC reservation for April next year. We would like to go before the 70th celebration is over next summer and we have banked points to start using Feb 2026. But a year from now when the first pass kicks in may be cutting it close

I was thinking of possibly getting the Delta Platinum for the companion voucher for when we go to DL or Aulani. Just 2 of us right now, no kids (yet?) We do have an Amex platinum that my wife signed up for last year for the huge bonus, now we are deciding if we want to keep it or downgrade to Amex Gold for the lower fee while we use up the points since there is no redemption bonus for Amex Plat (that I know of, is there one?) and we don't seem to use the card much since it really didn't seem to earn points very well for most things.

That sounds like a good plan on both.

Not sure about Platinum perks but I think downgrading that makes sense for groceries and dining at 4x.

Since you are mostly using SW this might not matter but the CP is only main cabin on platinum where with the reserve you get main cabin, comfort+ and first class which might be beneficial when getting to AUL but of course you have to fork over cash for the other ticket.
