Hi everyone,
I made my husband sign up for a chase sapphire card a little over a year ago. We got $400 worth of gift cards. I was never on the card. It came up for renewal and he cancelled since it had an annual fee. I was wondering if I can now sign up for one as well and just put in my name? Would I be eligible for the $400 in gift cards? Thanks for your help.

If you weren't on the previous card, I see no reason why you wouldn't be able to sign up for your own. As for the gift cards, are they still offering them for new cardholders? If so, you can probably get them.

As long as it wasn't a joint application you will be eligible for the 40,000 ultimate rewards sign up bonus. On a side note, the points are worth much more if you transfer them to one of Chase's partners for airfare, hotel stay etc.

Also while at Disney if your staying on-site put the Chase Sapphire Preferred as your card on file and charge everything to the room and you will receive double points on every purchase. Even those that our not food related. Because Disney uses the "travel" billing code everything charged to your room will give you double the points, just a tip.

I agree with this. As long as the previous card was only in his name, you should qualify for the sign up bonus. Also, with the current sign up bonus, you could add him as an authorized user and get another 5000 pts.

I also agree that you can milk more value out of those points than using them for gift cards. As an example, I got a nonstop one-way ticket from Hawaii for 20,000 pts (equivalent to redeeming for $200 in gift cards). On United's website that ticket was worth $1300. Which was ridiculous when that was essentially the same price as a round trip ticket, but even if you look at it as half of $1300, then it was still worth $650. It all depends on your situation though, getting $400 in gift cards is pretty sweet too.
