I have a Chase Freedom but don't get how the cash back works. Do you see it on your statement? Or do you have to go to the rewards page and choose the option to receive the money?
I have never once gotten a promo from Chase rewards.. everyone keeps talking about them, but all I get is my 1%. I get enough every year to renew my annual Disney pass and still have some points left over.. that is all I use my points for basically. The left overs just keep piling up. I keep convert them to a gift card and keep them on there.
Chase Freedom has a different 5% cash back every quarter. 5% cash back on gas, hotels and travel ends 9/30. Next Quarter is restaurants, department stores and I think Kohls specifically. You have to register to receive the 5% cash back up to $1500. Not sure if you can do it over the phone, I do it on line. You have to register every quarter.
Most rewards cards are 1%. 1% = 1 dollar for every 100 you spend. So you spend @21k you get $21.
On occasion they have promotions where you get bonus rewards for spending over specified amount on specified categories.

This is what Discover does as well (along with awesome cash back for most online shopping if you click through the discover website and use your card).

Bad math. 1% of $21K is $210 not $21.
Oops! It really was meant to say $2,100 = $21.
