So I went to Shoprite last night to take advantage to the 5% cash back cor using chase pay. Did my shopping, got up the the register, opened the app, tapped pay to get the QR Code for the cashier to scan, handed my phone to the cashier (feeling quite swanky and futuristic I might add) and nothing. The cashier could not get it to scan, then she called another cashier, then a manager...then they all looked at me and shrugged and told me that sometimes it just doesn't work. At this point it had been 20 minutes and I had like 5 people in line behind me so I had no choice but to pay with my CC.

I called chase and explained the situation and asked if I could get the points because the only reason I went to Shoprite vs my usual store was to take advantage of the offer. Chase just keeps saying there is nothing wrong with the app and since I didn't pay with the app I can't get the points.

Granted its possible that the cashier didn't hit whatever button she needed to hit in order for the payment to work...but if you're going to advertise something like that you have to stand by it and make sure the managers at the very least know how to work it. (Shoprite is still saying that sometimes is doesn't work and it's not their fault by the way).

and then...as if to add insult to injury..one of the coupon/ad things to print off with you reciept was an ad for chase pay and how I could get 5-10% cashback

I am just so very frustrated right now!!!!!

Ugh, what a pain. Sorry that happened. I hate missing a deal that I should have gotten.

I think I’d be more frustrated with shop-rite though. I don’t think it’s chase’s responsibility to train retail managers. I’ve only used chase pay at bb though and never had issues but maybe the issue is with chase???

Sorry that happened to you!

First off, it's a full time job trying to navigate offers!

On Sunday morning I had to run by CVS to pick up a prescription that had been sitting for a few days - they do ready fill and I still had some pills, but eventually they put it back and early sunday is a good time for no lines.

So I picked up a few things based on the offers on my card. And based on their ad and what they had listed on the shelves. When I get to the cash register it's all, 'you can't use the coupon because it's already buy one get one half off.' I had studied the shelf to figure out which size was best and which size was not on sale. Nope. All of the sizes are on sale.

So I used the 30% off coupon to buy a candy bar and left the stuff. I was only stocking up and they will send another coupon. In fact, my receipt had a coupon attached! CVS just irritates me, but my prescriptions are locked in to Caremark so I'm stuck.

They have to hit the "chase pay" button on their screen, then use a scanner (the hand held kind that scans in an x pattern (you can see the x when they shine it on something) to scan the barcode. How do I know this? Because I had the same issue when I first tried to use it - wouldn't work on that register. They wound up suspending my order and moving me to a different register where they had the right kind of scanner.

Not kidding - there were about 4 different people - cashiers and managers- all working to figure out how it works (this was back in December when the offer just came out - I had downloaded chase pay in line because I saw a flyer). It took them a while (fortunately it was at an odd time, so I wasn't in a rush and they weren't super busy), but they were super nice and interested in figuring out how to make it work (I think they had just gotten the software, and one of the guys had been involved in the install). Since then, I've been able to tell them how to do it, and then if they don't have the right scanner I have asked them to suspend my order and send me to a register where it works (there is a register by the self checkout that seems to be used for "problem" orders of various kinds) and I've been able to use chase pay every time - but I've come across plenty of cashiers that don't know how it works!

It is so frustrating when you go out of your way and then run into people who aren't trained properly. Hope my instructions help you get the deal that is going on through Feb 4th!

I had the worst time at CVS last week trying to use coupons. Maybe they changed their policies? He told me two coupons I couldn't use because the stuff was on sale. I said I have always used coupons on sale things, that did not make sense. Then a 3rd thing was for an Almay cosmetic and I bought an eyeliner. He said this doesn't work you bought eye stuff not what is listed. I said it says any cosmetic, he said I don't know what cosmetics means but it is not working. I took the Almay off, but at this point is was taking forever and there was a long line. My daughter was embarrassed we were holding everyone up, but it was super frustrating.

If the cashier couldn't get it to scan it was a store problem and you're probably completely out of luck. If it scanned and then the transaction errored out it could be a store or ChasePay problem and you may have a long shot if you get a sympathetic phone rep. I've had ChasePay fail on me once over Xmas, Chase Pay and Best Buy were having issues one day and I scanned and it errored out so I left my purchase and came back the next day (not an option if you need your groceries obviously). A couple calls to Chase to make sure my accounts were ok and one of the reps said ChasePay was having issues talking to Best Buy's system but they'd be fixed by the next day. Next day all was well.

As for getting your points back with Chase I'd be upset too but I don't see much hope there. You could call one more time, don't mention that you've called previously, explain what happened and request Chase credit you the difference in courtesy points because the IT failure is not your fault, be very nice about it and you probably won't get the points but who knows? Only you can decide whether or not that long shot is worth your time.

they exist! I had one one time when my tire place told me i really really need new tires. he shows me my tires and how much it has balded. Problem is, i wanted to pay with my credit card. i can earn points! Well, since i just paid my statement, i didnt have enough room on my credit card for a $600 purchase. I called chase asking how to send in a 2nd payment, or cancel payment, sent a new one. Chase CSR couldnt do anything. He finally asked why i wanted to do that, i explained im about to make a big purchase and wanted to earn points. He asked me what i would do instead now, i told him id probably pay with a chase debit card instead. He said, He will apply points to my card if i do that, i agreed and got my 600 points. :]

It's not just you. DH and I have had a terrible time trying to get Chase Pay to work at multiple ShopRites. It's the only reason we haven't maxed out the promo yet. We've had issues with the type of scanners (it took 3 trips for someone to figure that out), and also with the total dollar amounts and whether there were multiple gift cards in the sale. It's been so so frustrating.
The silver lining is that there's a ShopRite promo starting on 2/4 giving a $15 grocery voucher with a $100 retail gift card purchase, which is the last day of the Chase Pay promo, so you can stack the two promos for that one day. IF you can get Chase Pay to work, of course. :P

BTW, I did both the December and January offers, and still haven't seen any of the bonus points in my account o_O
