For at least one year, the annual fee is "matched" by $25 rewards dollars once you make 5 non-PIN purchases. You only get $1 per $200 spent. All transactions must be non-PIN purchases (so even though it's a debit card, they want you to choose "credit" to earn).
Very cute card choices, IMO. Not as many as I would have liked, but that's OK.
The Chase lady said that with their other rewards program, you had to pay the $25 *per card*, but with this one, it covers TWO cards, so hubby and I each got a card.
Not sure if we'll keep it beyond the year mark, b/c we plan to be done with our Chase car loan by next year October (2 years early, woo!) and won't feel the need to have an account with them, and I doubt they'll do the $25 dollars for 5 purchases in subsequent years, but next year is another day, LOL.
There are plenty of poeple who won't find value in it. Those people very likely have the actual Disney Visa card, and if those people pay it off so they don't get interest charged etc, more power to them, I can understand why! But for those of us who can't, or just don't want to, get the actual CC card, especially for the first year with the offset 25 bucks, this is better than NOT getting $1 for every $200 you spend, LOL.
And with us, we realized (after looking into this) that we had to pay $25/year for our credit union *rewards* program on the CC...so we'll drop that rewards program once we get our redemption and the year comes up for renewal, and focus more on this (we don't enjoy using the CC anyway, mainly keeping it for future mortgage purposes and for hubby's business trips). So for us it's just swapping one $25 for another, but others don't have that, and for them it doesn't make sense!
Just remember, it's NON-PIN purchases.
