I just got off the phone with Chase who had told me in June that if I close my account when the minimum payment percent goes up they would put it back to 2%.It is up now so I called to close the account and now they are telling me it will still be 5% even closed.I talked to 4 different people and was pretty much told that no one could have told me that in June. The supervisor said I was confused and that I couldn't have been told that. They were rude and insulting to me.Is anyone else having this problem?I will never use Chase again and advise everyone else to stop too.

They did that to me. I was trying to get a lower APR, they told me I would have to close my account and then re-open it back up. So I did, I closed it, then when I tried to re open my account, they denied me. I talked to many people & Supervisor and they did nothing to help me. NOT ONE THING. So, now I am stuck with a higher percentage that I will never be able to get reduced, since my account is closed. Plus, it will affect my credit because of that. I am SO SURPRISED that Disney would even be linked to CHase with their Disney VISA. I will not get a DISNEY VISA because it is with Chase.

I don't think you are alone, there have been several other threads about chase/Disney Visa doing the old switcheroo with interest and credit levels.

Heck, they raised my Disney Visa from 5.6 to 12.9 percent with a months notice. I just went to my credit union and got a fixed rate mastercard with the same amount of credit, and will stop using the Disney one.

We also had a WaMu card that was changed over to chase, you guessed it, they doubled the interest rate. the only good thing is that I don't have a balance on either one.

I also have a GM card that we havn't used in a couple of years, and they just notified us that they are reducing our credit available from 22k to 16k.

I think banks all over are going to be doing that!

I remember reading somewhere (here?) that the banks have to get all of this manuvering done before a february deadline. Then a consumer credit rights bill takes effect.

:confused3 I wonder what they would say if you told them to pull the recorded phone call in which you were told "XYZ" I just had to deal with the fraud dept. and a recording told me twice that my conversation would be recorded.

I have two Chase credit cards. Disney one and a regular one that we've had for years. I got the Disney one last year to pay for our trip and get no interest something or other. Didn't qualify, so didn't use it. Now they want to raise the interest rate. We never use it, so I just ignored it. They say it hurts your credit score to close accounts. :confused3 Our other account has been fine so far. :worship:

My DH and I both opened up a Chase account to take advantage of their 0% for 15 months. We rolled all our credit card debt into these 2 cards. We received the notice that our interest rate after the promo rate was up would be 23.99% if we kept the account open!!!! Are they serious? Thankfully, we timed our payments to end when the promo rate ended and haven't charged another thing. We were also told that if we closed the account it would go back to the originally agreed upon percentage of 6.9% after the promo rate ended. I wonder what they truly give me if I would cancel the account? Would they give me a different rate? Who knows but a lot of sneakiness is going on with the banks so check your statements carefully.

It helps a little to know I am not the only one out there being told one thing and Chase does another! I did ask for them to check back on the recorded phone call and was told that their employees are highly educated and would not have told me that so they didn't need to listen to the original phone call.I told them I am educated too and didn't like being called a liar. What ever happened to "the customer is always right"? Even if they couldn't lower the rate back they could have said they were sorry for what I was told and not act like I made it all up! Warning to all the other Chase card holders out there - I was tod that even if you close out your account they still have the right to raise your minimum payment percentage.Good luck every one!

Did you get a letter from Chase stating that the minimum rate would increase from 2% to 5%? If so I thought you had to write them and send a letter stating that you wanted to opt out?

Now American Express is starting the same mess. I recevied a notice on my Amex Blue that the interst rate is going from a fixed 8.9% rate to a variable rate. Another credit card I will not be using (including Chase Disney).

Got the same notice on mine today too.
I always pay off month to month so it doesn't affect me.
But I will discontinue use due to the principle of it!

Do you think that they would find (or keep) the recording that would support your claim?

They probably only keep them for a few days, then erase them.
(unless of course the record someone making a threat or something!)

I don't think they they even care if they upset people, their goal is to reduce the number of people having credit cards so that they can get their "bottom line" in a better shape for their credit rating!

I think thats why they are raising stuff to outragious interest rates, they are hoping that you will just cancel it.

I think it's sad to some degree. The people who have gotten themselves in a precarious position to begin with are going to get totally screwed by the credit card companies.....HOWEVER, I'm amazed that the credit card companies don't realize that to a degree they are shooting themselves in the foot. For all of us who are quitting using those cards do to the principle of it are going to end up costing them big time. We might not carry a balance but they are making a usage fee from the retailer every time we swipe that card. Less swipes equal less money and they are now only holding on to the customers that may end up defaulting because they raise their rate so high they just can't pay it. What are they gaining?? I must be missing something :confused3

These credit card companies are driving me nuts. I've gotten letters recently from both Chase (Disney) and American Express both saying they are raising my interest rate and lowering my available credit. I don't keep balances on either one so it really doesn't effect me but I feel bad for the ones that it does effect. This is no way to try to help our economy, it's just going to make it worse. For me all I am going to do is not use my cards and just stick with cash and my debit card from now on.

Just an FYI, make sure you use those CC's every couple of months for a small purchase, just to keep them active(you never know when you may need them)

I've worked in a call center before and while it can be a hard job at times, the benefits and pay are usually quiet good (considering most call centers don't require a degree.) But I also know how frustarating it can be working there, so I always try to be extra nice whenever I call in. But man, the Chase reps sure are a piece of work! They are NOT friendly or customer oriented. They show no sympathy or concern, nor are they apologetic if they can't help you.

I called to ask what my "opening balance" was, so that I could calculate my average daily balance, and thus my interest charges for the month. But there was "no way" for them to get that information. They can only see current day information. Ok, so then how do the statements know what my opening balance was, etc.

Chase is just one bit pathetic joke. I won't lose any sleep if they fail.

I'm stuck in a call center right now :sad1: (not Chase!) and we can only see current data. Anything prior or more detail might be available via the computer but that isn't shared with us.

As for pay for CSR's, it's usually awful from what I've seen. Maybe it's regional?

I was a former WaMu customer ... always paid a lot more than the minimum balance, was never late, and only owed about 1/3 of my credit line when Chase took it over. :thumbsup2 They immediately lower my interest rate, then raised it a little, then I just got a notice lowering my credit limit because I have "other cards with a high amount of credit owed". :confused3 Mind you, I have 2 other cards that I owe less than $200.00 each on! Where do they get their information? I am beginning to think that because I always pay a lot more than the minimum and am never late, they don't like me because they can't make any late fees off of me. What do you think? :cool2:

Speaking of WaMu...... About 4 months ago I opened a checking acct there. I really enjoyed going inside the branch to make my deposits. The employees were friendly, the mood was upbeat -- it was a breath of fresh air! :goodvibes

Then the WaMu sign came down, the Chase sign went up and WTH happened??? It feels like a very different place. Definitely not a happy, unbeat place any longer. :sad2:

I was just at my usual former-wamu-now-chase today, and they are really making me want to close the account entirely. Since wamu was stolen (just my opinion) we now do most of our money stuff with a credit union, and I kept my account at chase out of loyalty b/c I worked for a former subsidiary at wamu, and that's how my account got started...but every time I have to deal with someone it's like the pod-people took over. These are the SAME people that were so happy at wamu, and they are so UNhappy at chase, it's just awful.

They never know anything, either, they mess up...and they don't apologize. It's just not right.
