Hi all,

Does anyone have a restaurant suggestion for us for Saturday night in Charlotte? We only have one night to go to dinner, flying back to CA on sunday.

It will be myself, DH, DS (7), DS (4), DD (1 1/2), we would like something very nice but also kid friendly - maybe something with a view?? Or in an interesting neighborhood to walk around?

We are staying at the wesin and will have a car.

I read in fodors about a place called MERTS, is that a good idea???

TIA!!

Pixie dust,

Susy

I found three from looking at zagat and fodor

Merts?
Blue?
Palomino???

Thanks!

Susy

I have heard of Mertz before but have never been there myself. But I figured my answer would give this a nice little bump back to the top for ya though. :thumbsup2

I appreciate it!

When people come to Los Angeles to visit, I usually send them for a nice dinner in Malibu, view of the Ocean, beautiful sunset...I'm looking for the tourist-in-charlotte equivalent of that.

Was this supposed to be a new thread? How much time will you have in NC? Not much, right? You could check out a few places here.

There are some restaurants on Lake Norman you might want to check out but the view wouldn't be near as amazing as what you have out there.

You are welcome, sorry I don't know more about Charlotte though. Have faith because I know there are more DISers in that area. Oh, let me go bump a thread and give them a link to this one - that might help you out.

yes, teak chairs was supposed to be a new thread!

The kids were tugging on me and I didnt realize I had done it wrong

I was wondering. I could just see you sitting there tomorrow looking for replies then thinking you said something band and had your thread deleted.

I've enjoyed several lunches at Mert's Heart and Soul before. It is good, old-fashion, homestyle country cooking at its best. Wonderful meatloaf. Check this site for menu options: http://www.mertsuptown.com/default.aspx

Some other places to consider are

Latorre's: http://www.latorresrestaurant.com/

The Capital Grill: http://www.thecapitalgrille.com/Locations/Charlotte/Main.asp?Location=Charlotte

Rock Bottom Restaurant & Brewery (401 N. Tryon, Suite 100, Charlotte, NC 28202, 704-334-2739) No website listed, but google it for reviews.

These were some of my favorite restaurants when I frequented uptown Charlotte. My experiences were at lunch-time with all the banking crowd. Avoid going anywhere near the Concord area as the big NASCAR race is over the weekend and traffic will be a nightmare.

You state, "It will be myself, DH, DS (7), DS (4), DD (1 1/2), we would like something very nice but also kid friendly - maybe something with a view?? Or in an interesting neighborhood to walk around?"

Lattorre's has a nightclub-type atmosphere and might not be the best for smaller children. Capital Grill is a wonderful spot to wine and dine business clients, so it is a little stuffy. Mert's is a "hole-in-the-wall" type place, but a treasure for the city. Good food, great staff. Rock Bottom is located very near Discovery Place, which is a science museum geared toward children. All these restaurants are located on street-level, so they won't have spectacular views. Honestly, I would not want to do much evening walking in uptown Charlotte. On weekends, it is pretty life-less except for nightclubbers and vagrants.

I really appreciate the info - we are leaving in 36 hours!
