Well, that was a very interesting experience. I don't want to do it again! Charley has now passed my area. I live about 10 minutes north of WDW. The worst of the winds just skimmed Disney and my home. I have no damage. Disney will propably have minimal damage. Universal and Sea World took direct hits. I would expect them to have quite a bit of damage. Charley is now moving toward the Daytona area. It is now a category one storm with winds of about 90 mph. Not a lot of reports of damage in yet. I would expect to hear more in the morning. I know of at least one death in the Orlando are related to the storm. A large moving van tipped over due to a gust of wind. It landed on a car carrying a family of five. A five year old girl died. Very sad. Thanks for all your good thoughts for those of us here. Those of you planning a holiday in Florida soon should be in good shape!

Glad that it has finally passed over.

Do you think that was the last of the storms or are there more on the way ?

We have been up on and off during the night watching on Fox News, we were very worried for you guys, so we are relieved that the casualties were not too many but our thoughts are with everyone who has suffered in any way.

The news coverage has stopped here now that it has moved on so I am unable to get an acurate update !

Hope you don't mind me asking but we are coming over on Friday and obviously a little nervous, especially my DD.

Thank you

Florry

Hi.

Glad to here you are allright and that your home is in one piece.I've been watching CBS and BBC news 24 and charley looks terrifying. My wife and I have been watching the news and been on line alot of last night and today.Flordia means a lot to me,and I send my best wishes to everyone there.
Let us know if you get anymore news.

Best wishes.

Jon

Glad you are OK. Hope everyone else is OK as well.

Thank you for the update.

If you were to look outside today in my neighborhood, you'd never know that Charley came through. We were very lucky! My neighbors lost a bit of fencing, but that's about it. There are areas of Orlando that were hit very hard. Kissimmee had a lot of damage. There was also a lot of damage at the International Airport.

All of the Disney parks are open today except the Animal Kingdom. Universal and Sea World are open as well. That did surprise me since they were in the path of the worst winds. I'm sure they worked all night once the storm passed. I've not heard reports of injuries in the Orlando area. There are reports of several casualties in the Ft. Meyers area.

florry, I do believe they are watching two more tropical depressions. So far, they have not developed into anything further. They may not. They are so hard to predict. They are tropical depressions Danielle and Earl. If the first one does develop it will be just south of Cuba on Thursday. Please feel free to PM me for updates. I will try to keep abreast of what's happening. Remember, this hardly ever happens to Orlando. The last time they had a storm like this was in 1960 with hurricane Donna. Please don't let it ruin your vacation plans!

Charley is now over the water along the east coast. It is still a category one hurricane and will make landfall in North Carolina this afternoon.

If anyone else needs additional information, please ask!

Peggy

We are watching those two tropical depressions too as we are supposed to fly in on Saturday. I pray they stay away from land. As it is this trip is already bittersweet knowing that people just died from Charley.

Hi Peggy,

Thank you for letting us know what is going on. I can't stop thinking about that poor family who have lost their little daughter. It really does bring things into perspective.

Hope you and yours are safe.

God bless

My uncle's house in Poinciana took some damage, he's lost all his pool enclosure, the netting and the framework etc, and he has a tree in his pool. He has also taken some minor roof damage. He also has no power.

His friends in Poinciana got it worse, one had a tree on his car, and another lost his entire roof.

My uncle had some rental customers in, who were fine, just a bit scared I expect, and have been ok about the lack of pool and power.

He's having to fly out on Friday to go fix his house up.

What I did find surprising was that he says you can't purchase Hurricane insurance if you live on a designated "hurricane belt". I dont know if he meant you can't get it atall, or if its prohibitivley expensive, but I know he isnt covered whatsoever....he could have ended up with just a plot of land !
