Out of all the trips, we do one driving trip to Orlando once a year because we take 2 weeks to stay at Disney one week and Hilton Head another week. The overnight drive to Orlando is just sooooo long at the end. Coming home is easier because we are already at Hilton Head, so the trip is shorter vs. going down.

For this year. I am considering driving overnight to Charleston and get there first thing in the morning, stay at club level, go around the city for a day, and then head out to Disney the next day.

Has anyone used the points to stay at this place and any insight on the club level?

Any suggestions for kids friendly restaurants or sightseeing? It seems that everyone recommends this fort and the carriage rides.

Thanks in advance!!

I haven't, but I have an upcoming trip planned to Charleston Place, and am interested in any responses that you might get.

The location is pretty good. I'd love to give it a stay but I don't want to spend the points. The carriage rides are fun and I'd recommend getting there first thing in the morning to avoid a wait in busy times as they only allow so many carriages on the streets at a time. There are several companies and most give a kids discount or a few bucks off. We like Hyman's Seafood for at least one meal ....it's definitely not fancy....old and fishy smelling but it's a landmark and we've enjoyed our food with the exception of the nasty boiled peanuts. We've eaten at the Peninsula Restaurant and it's not kid friendly but our young teens loved the expensive food choices. I want to try a breakfast at Poogan's Porch this spring when we go over Easter.
If (after you've tried the Orient hotel) you are looking for a cheap (or free) option in Charleston and have starwood points, the Sheraton is very decent as a room goes. The restaurant is standard but I don't eat there. It's a short drive to the Battery and the rest of downtown. Parking is free at the Sheraton - downtown you will pay about $15 a night or so.
We love an overnight in Charleston. That said it does add miles to the overall trip as it's off the highway quite a bit. But I'll be doing it as the above mentioned 'free' option on my way back from Disney next month.

Judique, thanks so much. You have provided quite a few tips for me!!!

Now I finally know where this Sheraton is. I am a Starwood member so I always try to book Starwood properties.

For this trip, I just want to be pampered to make up the longgggg drive. I will try Hyman's and pre-book the carrige ride before we get there.

After I read your post, I went around and route and see if there is another place I want to stop. But still came down to Charleston. We never make it to Charleston once we get to HHI. No one wants to go anywhere else after we are at HHI!!!

Thanks again.

We're staying at Charleston Place in April for 3 nights. I'd love more info on the hotel.

We stayed at Charleston Place paying cash, we were not on the club level. I just loved this hotel. The location was great. We also dined at Hymans and the food was very good, but there was a line to get in.

There is usually a line at Hyman's. We live here and don't eat there. We ate there once to see why the line. Charleston is full of GREAT restauants, several within walking distance of, The Charleston Place. There is a Visitors Center, on the way into town. It offers some pointers on where to go and what to do. We are full of History. We are one of the 13 original Colonies. You will not be disappointed with the Hotel. It is first class. We have only stayed on cash.
