Charity Cases

This woman has 113 total posts, with 98 percent of them on the rent trade board, most soliciting points at discount prices from others. Along with most requests is some altruistic motivation to entice an unknowing owner to take less than they normally would for a reservation/points. Then, she turns around and sells the reservations to her "clients", or posts the reservation back on the rent trade board!

Examples from her posts:

Personally I hope a mod sees the above and just puts a stop to it.

I noticed that one other person who was "outed" for running a business seems to have disappeared.

Sorry, but if you want to run a business you should pay the board owners an advertising fee. Using thier server for this is just wrong IMHO.

I don't have a problem with a person renting out their own points, and the price is unimportant really.

The problem is she's playing on the emotions of others to buy points on the cheap and then sell them at a premium price, often securing hard to get reservations at the expense of other DVC members.

Also, she's taking advantage of a loophole in the MS system, where the transferred points, no matter the use year and home resort of the original points, take on the use year and home resort of her small 100 point BCV contract.

I would think all DVC owners would/should be outraged

This is not the only abuser of the system. Check out the Rent/Trade Board for the poster with 5 responses that can only "pay $6.00 per point" based on a medical condition of her child. This is the same person who has been to WDW twice this year, both times at a deluxe...once at Conceirge...and wants to get free pins, discounted food, and can't stay at a moderate or value without the Florida Resident Discount, which has been pointed out is available  ...a shameless scam artist who wants to stay DVC or Deluxe at our expense!

What a lowlife!

I agree with you completely. However, I think the woman pleading for these points, to only rent them out to others as a business for a profit, is a couple rungs lower on the disgusting scale.

Man, oh, man, TCPluto. I just did a search on that member and I found 107 posts with at least 100 of them on the Rent/Trade board trying to buy others' points for cheap rates. And in only about a one year's period. She was buying 200 to 400 points at a pop. She must get tens of thousands of points each year.

Why doesn't DVC limit the number of points or transactions for members per year? That could limit people like these.

What gets me are the ones who refuse to stay at the Pop for the discounted rates because they think they can DVC stays for cheaper. And they refuse to pay the going rate.

When members sell out DVC for less than the going rate, they really devalue DVC.

Deb/Bill,

I just read the thread that likely got this whole thing started. All I can say is disgustingly reprehensible!!

Go to that womans web page. She and her family have been to WDW over ten times in the last year!! Not to mention Colorado, Utah, etc., all in the past 12 months.

I guess if you use others and play on their sympathies, you can get alot for a little. She also posted on a thread about what a great feeling it is to get a "steal" of a deal/bargain.

That's exactly what she will/would be doing to any DVC member who falls for her story.

The story may be true, but to use it to solicit the good will of others is truly low. Why would this woman ask another, a stranger at that, to subsidize luxury accommodations for her? I don't get it.

I don't think there is any real way to police this behavior. Which makes it all the more important for everyone to cast a wary eye when approached with one of these stories.

I guess it takes all kinds....

WOW!!! I'll be the first to say that I hate to be judgemental, but this is bad. Real bad.

Lat - I pm'd you... please respond

I am posting a copy of the thread that i posted on the Rental board...
it is www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=499264

"I am thinking about becoming a DVC member and will be doing my honeymoon @ CBR this May with my new husband and family members. Since our daughter is severely disabled, we are unable to go on a honeymoon on our own but are thinking of maybe having 1 night away. I thought it would be a good opportunity to try out BWV which we are interested in.
It would cost 11 points to stay in a studio for one night. Could anyone help us out?
We are going to see Cirque de Soleil."

You can see the replies I got from this post at the above URL.

I am hoping that I am not the brunt of this conversation. I have never asked for a deal.... I have rented 2 more times since this post at the asking price with no problems.
We stayed at POly and did the Disney Wonder in may 2001... 2 years and 3 months after my chiild became severely brain damaged from the flu. It was a gift from my aunt and I was a single mom at the time.
We have tried to book cruises again since but they have fallen through either due to lack of space with new baby or lack of funds.
I have never been a "charity case".. nor am I looking to make anyone lose out on anything. Yes - there may be people who beg for cheap points and get them. I have never asked for any deals.
I am very grateful for the fact that we were able to go to BWV and for the generousity we were shown... but we did not ask for it in anyway. We did however get to spend at least one night alone.... we have a new daughter to prove it! It was Disney Magic with the help of a Disney angel who made it possible.
We have every intention of buying into a DVC contract when we can afford it... it makes it possible for us to vacation as a family somewhere accessible for our severely disabled child. The pools are shallow... DH doesn't swim... and the stairs are easier to handle than ladders with Ryleigh.
Hoping to one day join your club...
Suzanne

Trying tto figure out how to add official quote to a post....

Tigger2on, no, it was someone else. I did this a few times and this time I was taken.

I hope all is well.

I really wasn't sure and was scared that if it was me, no one would ever rent to us again!!!!
I am also glad it wasn't us because you were the one who introduced us to DVC and have made our family vactaions soooo much smoother and enjoyable. You are our "Disney Angel"!!!!
The kids are fine. We are doing Ry's b-day trip a month early as we are trying to sell our house so we can afford the new one.... and it is easier when we are all out of the house! It sucks to pack up the wheelchair and lug Ry in and out of the car for 2 hours so they can have an open house! Staying at OKW... cheaper and splitting cost with mom :o)
Hoping Disney is lucky for us again and we'll be expecting # 3 next July!!!!!
Fingers crossed!!!
How's your little one doing? Enjoying school this year?

Why would someone who came into an inheritance and wants to buy into DVC be a charity case? I don't get it! You have visited Disney frequently even cruising. I'm confused?

You're right. That is at least a couple of rungs lower.

wow i am fairly new to this part of the boards and started reading here as i rented points for a trip next year
i have tosay this is sad and I would hope that the person who is doing this would be banned
the person who posted all there posts is right ( sorry i cant remember your name)
they are dishonest and what they are doing is wrong
I feel so lucky to have rented the points I did
the gentlemen is question has been great so far and was very fair with us
to take advantage of the seller/owner is wrong
i do have a question why would disney let this person just bank or hang on to all these points isnt obvious what they are doing?

The individual in question is not breaking any DVC rules. Disney does not and will not get involved in any private rental transactions.

Best wishes-

This is shameful and if i were these people that are out there lying i would feel awful. But since they continue to do it, it's obvious they don't care.
I'm sorry good people are being taken advantage of.

The poster in question has been very careful in not putting a price/point for the sales she is making, but very consistent in only paying so much such as "I can only afford $9.00/point", but I especially love her use of her missionary family returning home and want to go to Disney.

She did slip up a year ago in this post (edited)

I have a Sept 12-17th Beach Club Studio Reservation that I will sell for $750. This is a 5 night stay. Otherwise I will cancel it tomorrow, Thursday Sept 12th. giving it up to those on the priority waitlist. Please contact at ***** if interested.

That's only $12.50/point.

Could someone please PM me the poster in question? I don't frequent that board and can't find her. Is that permissable?

If DVC members stop "giving points away" for less than $11-15/point, this sleezy trend would go away.

If you feed the vultures they will return!!

P.S. Can someone PM me a link?
