Please see the DVC planning boards about all the fraud that goes on on message boards. There are so many people needy and deserving of our help and charity, be certain to give only to organizations or people you know personally!
Please donate blood too if you can, there is a serious shortage!!

One of the main reasons that I support the charity linked in my signature is that it is locally based. The other reasons include that it spoils special needs, chronically and terminally ill children by taking the kids and their families to WDW.

I support this charity with monetary donations as well as by collecting pins and lanyards for the kids. Some really generous pin trader folk literally from around the world have donated lots and lots of goodies for the kids by sending the stuff to me to put together and donate in their behalf. They did so knowing that I do not work for the charity, but that I am just a supporter of it. It took quite a leap of faith for those folks to offer up the pins and lanyards, but they did it. Over time, I have been so touched by the continued generosity of strangers in their willingness to help spoil these kids. It's the good side of humanity.

As you can see, the link below was approved by webmaster Pete. I am very thankful for his kindness in allowing me to spread the word about this wonderful charity. Just because you don't personally know of a charity, if it's been linked with the webmaster's blessing, it's worthy of a look and most likely a donation. Just my two cents of course. Maggie

That's wonderful that you have found a local charity you respect and trust. I would assume the Webmaster checked it out before he endorsed it.
How much of every dollar contributed goes to the needy? I might contribute myself. I give to Make a Wish every year. We all have our own pet charitys of course. Sadly for every true charity there are hundreds of fakes. Good luck in making those children smile!

Bert's Big Adventure sm is a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) non-profit organization designed to allow children striken with a chronic illness and/or physically challenged children, ages 5 to 12 that prove financial need and live in The Bert Show radio listening area, to experience a magical weekend at Walt Disney World as our guests.

This sounds like a great local charity. Unfortunately it can only assist children in their radio area. Maybe others can recommend similair charities in their communities also? My backyard sadly has so many that can use it too. as does every corner of the world. Thank you for doing your part in your corner. :grouphug:
I still say be cautious when giving anything to stangers!

I can verify that mickeysaver has been given permission to link to that site.

Well, if you give to Make A Wish, they help to provide the Bert's Big Adventure charity with some assistance, I think they help them with the park passes. So, in a way, you are helping to support Bert's Big Adventure too! Maggie

One way to best serve those in need is to make sure the charity you are donating to is 501(c)3. I prefer to donate to charities that have low fundraising overhead. My favorite charity soends ZERO dollars on fundraising, and has NO paid employees! Other than less than 1% of all donations goes towards maintaining the charity, they do have a bit over overhead for postage and filing fees for the Federal government.

I agree 100%.This was highlighted during the recent Katrina tragedy. I don't remember where to check this, I know there is a site that tells you how much goes directly to those in need. Do you know the site? TIA
