Charging your cellphone at the Disney Parks

I thought I read on some secret or tip site that you can also just drop your phone off at any guest relations and they will charge it for you while you are out n about, so at least you are not tethered to a wall.

I believe you need to bring your own cord/charger

Hi there, DISers!

So, I'm taking my first trip to WDW in eleven years this November (wooooo, so close!), and one thing that will definitely be different from the last time I visited is the shiny new iPhone that is now basically welded to my hand. I don't have the funds at the moment to spring for a fancy extra-battery case or anything like that, so I'm sure I'll have to do some re-charging in the midst of my daily park perusal. I know that there are some outlets in the new Tangled restroom area at MK, but I figured you folks would know of other places a girl could juice up her phone on the fly. Where are the spots I should look out for in MK? What about in Epcot, and Animal Kingdom, and Hollywood Studios? Any and all tips would be greatly appreciated!

One tip I've read is to turn off your data service and use the Disney wifi instead. I use an iPod, not an iPhone, but I've never had any issues connecting to the wifi in the parks. Of course, unless you are expecting calls, you could just shut it down completely when you aren't using it and only power up when you specifically want to use it. My experience with other cell phones, and the iPod, is that you don't get much of anything inside the attractions, and my phone would burn through a lot of battery power trying. These days, I just lock the cell phone in the safe (it's not a smart phone - just a call/text phone). People know I'm at Disney, they email if they want to get a hold of me, and I check my email at meal time so if something urgent has come in, I don't miss it.

Even using the iPod for photos and videos, I haven't had to charge it in the parks yet. The charge has lasted all day.

In the gift shop/arcade at Space Mountain there are couple of long strips of outlets where you can recharge. They are over by the claw machines. I hung out there and charged up on our last trip while my daughter played some games.

Really? Wifi can actually drain your battery faster, especially if it's a weak signal and/or there are many users using the access point.

+1 for the Jackery
http://amzn.to/1e9HEmq

We took it with on vacation in August and we got 3 full iPhone charges on one full charge. You do need to charge the Jackery overnight (8 Hours) but it will keep you going ALL day long. We just connected it and threw it in the backpack and charged while we walked. It is 2.1A and charges fast.

There are two ports on it, one micro USB to charge it and a standard USB to connect your device. You can even charge your iPhone while your charging the Jackery.

It more depends on the signal. Going in and out of many buildings on WDW property, especially rides, can cause your cell phone to slip into and out of dead zones. So while on the ride, your phone will use more juice as it sits there and keeps scanning and scanning for a signal. The same can apply to WiFi. If you are in an area where it keeps dropping the signal, or can't find one, it will keep scanning for wireless. Good rule of thumb? Turn both off unless you need it. It takes all of 10 seconds to turn it back on and to connect back to the network.

However, I leave both on all day, upload pictures, browse web etc while in the parks, and I've never had my iPhone die on me. Yes it may be running down in the 30-40% charged at the end of the night, but never dead.

Being on vacation may be a good time to unweld the phone from your hand, and enjoy the sites, sounds, and company you are with. Twitter won't explode if you only post 5 tweets instead of 20, and Facebook will still be there with all your new wall posts later on that day.

Well with FP + a smartphone had become pretty much a necessity...

OP which iPhone do you have? I have the 5 and have to say, despite my initial concerns about the battery, this one kicks butt with battery life! Far better than any other smart phone myself or anyone in my family had had to date! I do turn off any unused apps but I am connected to wifi pretty much all day between the office and home and it runs happily through from when I get up in the morning to midnight without the battery ever having died on me

I turn my wifi off unless I'm actively using it, and my phone typically lasts me for more than a day between charges, and yes, I have used it at WDW to check the MDX app and adjust fastpasses etc at various points during the day.

(I've done this with both my personal android phone, as well as my work-issued iphone. Same result).

Other hints for longer battery life: Turn your brightness down a bit (I find I can still see it just fine at half brightness), turn off the GPS if you don't need it

Well my 5s sucks on battery life LOL
I don't turn off all my stuff but still
I use the helium morphie anyway

Ok- so I am getting an iphone 5s (ordered it and haven't received it yet.) I have never had a smart phone before. My old one barely made phone calls. So from reading this, I am getting the impression that my phone won't stay charged all day? So charging it overnight and starting fresh in the morning isn't enough? I really have no idea of these things and am not good with gadgets and technology so this is not an issue I have thought of before. Part of the timing of getting the smart phone is to use at Disney as we go in November.

Look into morphie cases as you will need one anyway will add a full charge to your phone.

I already have gotten an otter box. I need something that can protect my phone from my children. So maybe one of those external charger things. I just don't know if I really need one or not. I don't go out a lot (I am a SAHM) so it isn't often that I can't have my phone plugged in in the car or at home.

Ok. I ordered a yubi. Hopefully it will work with the 5s! Thanks for the tips! Battery life is something I would have never thought about! (Plus it will be good for my DH to use at home as he always forgets to charge his phone!!!)
