Charging to your room?

When you check in I assume that you give the resort an imprint of your credit card for purchases that you charge to your room. My question is, do they automatically charge your credit card a pre-set amount and then refund you the difference, or do they wait until you check-out and then charge your card? I'm thinking about using any remaining travelers checks I may have near the end of our stay towards our balance, but if they have already charged my card that would be a little pointless. Any help would greatly appreciated.

I think once you charge $500 it gets charged to your credit card. It might be $1000..but I know it is a set dollar amount. I personaaly don;t like doing things that way becasue I can forget easily what I have and have not bought and I can rack up a much higher bill then if I charge my credit card right there..but that is a personal preference.

They will take an imprint and verify that you have credit available, but do not charge the card until you check out unless you reach the preset limit. I think this varies by resort. I've heard $1500 at deluxes, $1000 at moderates, and $500 at values, but have no personal experience outside of the BWV (where I always get a $1500 limit). They will tell you the amount when you check in. In any case, you can check the bill the night before checking out and make a payment then (or any time earlier) if you wish to do so.

We make it a habit to stop several times and get a printout of our bill at that point. Then we also make a payment sometimes. You could do that also so it never gets to the credit card.
