Charging to the room

We are not doing the DDP this trip, but would still like to charge items to our room. Can someone explain how this works? I am assuming that I give the front desk our credit card info at check-in and that we use our keycard as a charge card.

Are there places that we can't use our keycard in this way? For example the snack carts, are they cash only?

When you check in, the CM will ask you if you'd like to apply charging privledges to your reservation. You can place it on every room key, or just one, your choice.

Depending on your resort you'll be "pre approved" for a certain amount... for instance when we were at the values, it was $500... at the Grand Floridian... it was $1200. Not sure whether that has to do with the credit card being applied or the resort status... just sharing our personal experience.

Your key will work just like any standard Credit Card. All charges will be monitored and logged and an invoice will be placed on your door the morning of your check out. We usually keep all reciepts to ensure it shows correct charges.

Since you've left CC information, you'll be provided with "express checkout" meaning that you won't have to go to the front desk to "settle" your tab, the amount given on your invoice will be charged to the CC information given on the day of check out.

If you would prefer to pay some of your tab in cash or with a different CC then simply head down to the front desk the night before your leave or any day during during the week, ask for a print out of charges, and let them know how much you'd like to pay and in what form. The front desk CM will print you out a new invoice reflecting the remaining charges, if any.

We've found that nearly every snack cart takes room charges with exception to a small few. We usually always ask before we place our order and carry a small amount of cash in the parks just in case.

As I understand it, the charge limit is determined by the level of your hotel...all values $500...moderates (I think)$1000...deluxe $1200...
I am not sure these are the correct amounts, but I do know it is determined by the resort level. If you need to increase the amount available, you can call the resort and ask them to put through the outstanding charges and this will "re-up" your limit for room charges to the original amount.

Are you allowed to put a different credit card on each of the keys? so that I can charge what i want and my friend can charge what they want?

I don't believe so... but keep in mind that Disney will not actually charge "that" specific card until you physically check out. Meaning that you can put your card down on both cards and have your buddy run to the front desk the morning you guys check out to settle up his portion of the tab with his own CC.

The invoices are pretty detailed with each charge, date, and time.. and like I said we always keep reciepts just to be safe.

The last time we bought a souvenier from the carts that have all the flashing toys/spinning toys on them, they didn't take credit cards. That's the only place I can think of. We always use our room key to charge purchases.

Credit limit for deluxes are $1500 at least that what I got staying the last year at the Yacht Club, WL & BWI.:)

Yes. But make sure your cash is locked up in the room safe for your trip. And don't flash it around.

As mentioned, your friend can pay off his charges the night before check out. When you get your room keys, look at the back. The last digit of each will be different. For example, mine would end in a "1" and my husband's would end in a "2". When we looked at the bill, we could easily see what I charged and what he charged, as well as when we charged and where we charged.
