If you have your room key set up to make charges to the room, how are you billed? Do you get a statement each night of the purchases that you made that day? Or only at the end of the trip. Also how is payment handled? Pay all at the end or pay by day?

Have looked as several sites and have not been able to find this info. Thanks in advance.

When you check in, they will use your credit card to set up your room charge, and then they will set a limit (I think it differs from resort to resort, but I'm not sure). When that limit is reached, it is charged to your credit card, and your room folio is reset to zero.

I don't think they actually notify you each day of what was charged to the room - I usually drop by the desk in the evening, and settle up the charges for that day with cash or traveler's checks.

When you check in they will authorize your card for $1 just to see if it is a valid card. I know this because I have looked at my online banking and seen the check card memo for $1 ten minutes after checking in. Anyway, they give you a preset limit to charge but do not place any holds on the card. The limits are $500 for value resorts and $1500 for deluxe resorts and I think (it's been awhile since we were at a moderate) $1000 for the moderates. You can go by guest services and get a print out of your charges whenever you'd like, and pay however and whenever you wish, whether it be cash, cc, or even a check. Otherwise, as soon as you reach that limit-they will charge your card, and then it is reset and you start over. We never hit our limit, and I keep track of room charges with my receipts and get a print out every few days, but not every day. Then if I don't want it charged to my card, I go down the night before we check out and settle the bill, otherwise, the moring of check out they will charge your card and then slide the bill under (or hang it on ) the door. You can split it between cards, cash and cards, however you want, as long as you do it the night before you check out, or before you hit that limit. If for some reason they try to charge your card and there is not enough funds on it, they will notify you and tell you to come to the desk to settle your bill with other funds. Hope this helps explain!

I hope the storms go away too, but it looks like we are in for another nasty night.

I LOVE Alexandria - our kids go to school there, and DH and I take a little mini-vacation there every year. We just hang out in Old Town and enjoy the area!

Excellent memory, carrieberry.

I was at POR las month and I think they set my limit at $1500. But it might have been based on my 11 night length of stay. TO tell the truth I was hesitent about charging to the room because I expected to spend more then $1500 in food and souveniers.

The first time we stayed on-site, we felt the same way - I was worried that the $1000 limit wouldn't be enough. But once the CM explained that the "limit" wasn't really a limit, i.e., it was just the point at which they charge to the credit card, and that then the "limit" would reset to 0, we were fine.

The downside was that we charged much more than we meant to. ;) That's why I go to Guest Services on a regular basis and pay it off - it just makes me feel better knowing that I won't have a huge charge to the CC when we get home.
