Charging to room key

I was curious, if I buy my niece gift cards, can we put those on her room key? That way she has her own money to use and wouldn’t need to carry the cards. She already has one or two gift cards so it would be much easier if we could do that

I think easiest is to charge to room then go to front desk and pay off the room charges every day or every couple of days.
