Is there any type of fee associated with charging anything to your room key? I am trying to decide between bringing cash, charging on room key, or putting some money on a gift card.

Thought?

There's no fee. It's incredibly convenient! We usually bring about $40-50 cash each day to the parks (some stands are cash only) but by far we use our room charge the most.

Have a great time!

Hi!
We like to use the room key for everything except those $5-$10 items you may need throughout the day. Just be aware, the spending limit is $500 unless you go down to the front desk and ask for more after the initial $500. (I have heard that the limit gets higher with the hotel category, but we have only charged to the room the past few trips to POP.) I had thought that the limit was $500/day, and that at the end of the day it was posted to your charge card and you got another $500, but this is not the case, as I found out the hard way....getting turned down in a store. Have fun!

we plan on doing this, and using our earned points for the credit card as well- less stuff to carry in the parks.
i thought i heard the limit was 1000 at a moderate, not certain though. does anyone know?
:confused3

Me again. Can you payoff what you charged your room everyday? And can you pay it off in cash?

That's a great question!!!!

We use our room key everywhere, and carry cash about no where. The morning of checkout we always take a bet on how high it is - unfortunately it's always higher than we thought ;)

I have a thread with this question in the resort forum. A few posters said yes, but don't wait until you check out, because they will run the charge on your CC or debit card.

If I go this route, I'll stop by the front desk nightly to pay it off. DS10 will want to get a frozen coke at POP anyway.

Values are $500, moderates $1000 and Deluxe $1500. You can go to the desk at any time and get get a print out of your charges. I like to do this a couple of times a trip. I believe they only charge your card when you reach your limit overnight, so if you reach your limit at 10am your card will be declined. I have heard of people that call the front desk from the store and they may be able to manually charge your card.

You can pay off your card in in cash at any time. Make sure you carry some cash with you like mrsltg said. Some smaller kiosks won't take the room charge. We had to pass on Kaki Gori one afternoon in Epcot because I didn't have any cash and only found out after I waited in line that they don't take the room charge. I know now that there are a few places that don't.

I found using a gift card to be the easiest. No counting cash, and no signing like with a credit card or room charge.

I know at the Poly it was $1500 and they charged my CC overnight to bring it down so we had room to charge. I didn't ask, they just did it for me. We were only there a few nights though. I don't know if they would have charged my card everynight if we had stayed longer or just waited depending on the balance. Now we didn't have a package so other than the deposit the room wasn't paid for in advance, so I got the impression that the room charge was included in our $1500 charging privileges.

I have never had the room charge included in with my available credit line.

When I stay at Pop and I hit that $500 mark(which happens too fast!) I just have the CM call Pop and they charge my card and reestablish my $500 credit limit. Never had a problem.

I have not found any places that do not take the room charge. Anyone care to list those places? Sometimes the carts/kiosks are offline and can't but as a rule I thought they all did.

Some CS has gone to not having you sign when paying with CC (maybe just under a certain amount like many stores now?) Not sure if they do that with room charge...didn't pay attention to it last time.

You can get a print out of all your charges every day and have them charge it off, pay with cash, travelers checks , disney dollars, etc whenever you want during your stay.

As the keys would be in and out so much with fast pass machines I'd be afraid of loosing my key and having another person charge it up. We have been known to leave a pass behind before.
