Charging Tips

Servers do not know about pre paid tips to at least Friday on DCL, in fact some are on a two week cycle, CM's leaving might know quickly.

On some other ships is has been reported that the cruiseline has published a list of people opting out of tips or service fees, thankfully not DCL.

Yeah. I saw that list posted on a Carnival chat site. A guest got a "backstage" tour and was able to snap a picture of the "list" posted on an employee bulletin board of guests who had gone to guest services and removed their tips.:scared1:

The DCL CMs get a check every 2 weeks with an accounting of their tips. Until they get that, they know from the stubs you give them in the envelopes.

Having 2 cabins is no problem. When I went to GS to handle our tips (6 people in 2 cabins with 5 different KTTW accounts), they asked if we had the same stateroom host--answer yes, and just handled the whole thing for me in the amounts I'd indicated on the form. As I requested, it was all done under my account.

If I had wanted each set of tips charged to each person's account separately (as it will be on my next cruise when I'm cruising with an adult friend), we will each do a form and each have separate envelopes. Either way, it's totally easy and GS will do it any way you'd like.

don't rush down to guest services on boarding. dh and i have tried several times on several cruises, to get our tips in order and have never been able to do so till wednesday. they always state their not ready to disperse tip stubs till then. at that time they give us our stubs addressed to each specific cm and our envelopes. i just shove them into a drawer, ready for the final  night.

I called them yesterday to order the stateroom gifts and dec and just asked them to add them on to my cc - they did this and i presume we will get somthing to show we have paid once we get to the ship. anyway all done so i dont have to worry now.

I would think that it was management's way of shaming/motivating employees. but who knows....

On Royal Carib they have a box at Guest Services that you drop your tip form into so you don't have to wait in line. Then you receive your tickets in your room the next day. Do you have to wait in line on DCL?

If you want to avoid possibly long lines, just ask for your envelopes early on in the cruise from gues services. I just wait until midweek to make sure I'm not having any service problems that couldn't be resolved. For example, our servers 2 cruises ago were NOT good. We never got coffee/tea w/ our dessert once despite asking & pointing this out. Our drinks were never refilled & we ordered the same simple drinks every night (plain ice tea, ginger ale, & 2 milks for the kids). They doted on the BIG tables & it was like our table didn't exist. We adjusted their tip down & wouldv'e added cash if it would've improved.

You can use cash. We carry travelers checks & get them cashed for our extra cash to add to the tip envelopes. I like getting the dream dollars or miles for our cards.

It's very flexible & very easy to do tips whatever way you want.

Happy sails! :boat:

In this instance if we believe what was said, its cruisers pre paying service fees, or opting out of pre paying, so the conclusion was the list was to advise servers who had opted out and serve them accordingly?
