Charging privileges on cards with DDP

This is my first time doing the DDP and I'm trying to make sure I have my thoughts together on it. I have seen posts with concerns about having both charging privileges and the DDP on the same card, but couldn't figure out what to do otherwise, because we definitely want to be able to charge to the room. Is the thing to do to make 1 of our cards the DDP card and have it without charging privileges and have the rest with charging privileges only? (Am I even making any sense?) How have you handled this? I'd love to hear how to do it, and why, so I can get a better grip on this issue.

Also, do you put any charging privileges or DDP on the cards your kids get? Why or why not?

Thanks!

Leslie

Well, I can't really help you with thoughts on putting things on kids' cards, but...

As far as charging privileges and the DDP go, DBF and I had both on both of our cards each time we have gone. The only time we had a problem was when DBF got a soda at a snack cart in on of the countries in EPCOT; the girl didn't really understand the DDP, her English was a bit limited, and it was August of '06. All other meals, drinks, snacks, paid for with DDP or charging, were all correct. The receipts will tell you if you had meal deductions made. You just need to specify that you want DDP used. When we ate somewhere and didn't want it to be taken off the DDP, we told the server that and they used the charging privilege. It was nice for when we got alcoholic drinks with our meals, because then we only had to give the one card, too.

As far as putting it on kid's cards, if you trust your kids then it would be ok, especially if you are going to hold onto their cards. I'm not sure if the DDP is automatically added? But charging privileges don't have to go on them all, and if you're not sure you want to give it to them, then don't. I know one of my friends, who is 21 yet, still uses her parent's charging privileges and has no real control over it because it's her parents' money :rotfl: . Just a thought, I see your girls are 10 and 8, so do either of them really need it? Will they be in situations where they would be buying anything without you there? If you have a choice with DDP, I'd say to link it. That way, the girls could get, say, and ice cream or a juice on a snack credit without you having to get it for them.

Hope that helps a bit :thumbsup2 !

My experience is that if anything gets charged wrong.. the concierge desk at your hotel can get it straightened out.

And yes.. you can only setup charging priviledges on only certain room cards if you wish.

I'm not sure about DDP.

DH and I had charging priveleges and the DDP on our cards. The kids just had DDP.

That said, we used them all for whatever we wanted. I just made sure, when I got the receipt from each time we ate, whether it was CS, TS, or snack, that the receipt accurately reflected what we did. The DDP receipts are very specific. If there's a problem, you want to notice it right away.

And like a previous poster said, the concierge is really helpful if you have any issues. I would just check receipts when you do anything and keep them too.

I found the concierge only moderately helpful in resolving these issues. She eventually directed me back to the eatery, which I think was wrong. However, that happens, even with WDW experts like me, so other folks should be prepared for it. Not having charging privileges on the room keys means that those kinds of issues simply cannot occur. You don't ever need help in resolving an issue if the issue neer occurs.
