Charging on your Disneyland Resort room key

Hi.

I'm a single mom of three teens who will be going to Disneyland in a week. I love going to WDW because my kids can charge their snacks and small items on their magic band, rather than me having to stand in line with them to pay for things. This is especially handy for the places that have a different line for the different type of food you want. Since Disneyland doesn't have magic bands, I was wondering about the room key (we are at the Grand Californian). The Disney website says you can use your room key to charge at "select locations". Does anyone know what those select locations are? Like snack and food locations in the parks? I will more than likely grab a Disney gift card for each child and put some money on it for snacks, but was wondering about the room key. Last year I didn't think about the gift card option and stood in line in front of every single "Cone" food line at Cars Land cuz each of the kids wanted something from a different cone. Trying to avoid that again.

Thanks!

Fwiw, wdw didn't have them either until a few years ago. And their charging system didn't get up to speed until about two years ago. And glitches were still common until about one year ago.

Anyway charging to a keycard is commonplace. :)

Though when we first went onsite at Dlr in '07 we had to carry a slip of paper for room charging. They didn't have it set up to the keycard.

Does anyone know what those select locations are? Like snack and food locations in the parks?

Most places except balloon vendors and maybe the carts that move.

No need for the gift card if you have charging privileges enabled on the room keys. I do it all the timed it is the best way to go. Just one bill to deal with rather then a zillion single charges.

They take the room charges anywhere they take credit cards at all Disney owned locations which is virtually everywhere in the parks (including carts), the hotels and World of Disney in DTD.

The roaming vendors do not take cards and there are only a few minor locations such as Ghirardelli in DCA that do not take them as well as all the restaurants in DTD. It is without a about the answer to your problem.

Just be sure that your kids have some form of ID with them. You need the room key and ID to use the charging privileges.

Since I have an AP and have to be present anyway, this has zero value for me. In fact, I view it as more of a hassle even if AP were linked. That service that has your purchases sent to your room on the other hand... awesome!!

We used our room key everywhere and it was great! The bill at the end was a little scary to see all at once though! :scared1:
The only time I ran into a glitch was when we went to the French Market and I accidentally pulled out the room key with my daughters name instead of mine...it didn't work.
So I would call the hotel directly and make sure each kid can use a key. Maybe the charge ability is only embedded in the adult room keys?

They will not automatically put the charging on the kids room keys. You will need to ask them to do that when you check in.

You CANNOT charge back from ESPNZONE in Downtown Disney!!! My teenage boys learn the hard way by ordering THEN eating an ENTIRE meal TO ONLY discover they DO NOT charge back to the DLR rooms!!! :sad2: So I get their phone call about their situation around 11:30PM to come and pay the bill !!!
As soon as I got there I let them have it ! :furious: Didn't care who the heck heard or saw my wrath at them!!! :snooty: I think that was the topper to their TOTAL embarrassing evening! They were armed with Disney Gift Cards and Charge Back privilege but were meeting friends at DTD then realized it might be too late to go back in the parks to get something to eat. They could have just come BACK to the room for room service BUT at least they learned a lesson along they way! :rolleyes1:P

Have a great time at Disneyland! :flower3:
