Charging multiple electronic devices??

Multi-port USB chargers are fine. They have one AC plug and 4-6 USB outlets. Even at full draw, they're pulling a miniscule amount of current, like half an amp. Most ship circuits are rated for 15 amps.

Thanks for all the feedback. We are planning to get a multi-port USB charger, but also bring the individual plugs just in case, to be able to charge the devices.

Just curious why you can't bring your own extension cord or surge protector but you can pay to borrow one to use from guest services? How is that any different safety wise if fire safety is the main issue? Seems contradictory sorta. But I'll follow their rules and try to find the multiple USB thingy yall mentioned! Good tip cause we'll have phones cameras etc to charge!

While I'm sure most folks would bring a surge protector or extension cord that was in good condition I'm sure Disney is not willing to risk it. I've seen my neighbor's when he out working in his yard! :-O

With 4 kids, we have electronic devices coming out of our ears. We usually travel with a power strip, at least for land trips. I bought a multi USB charger for this trip.

Speaking as someone who was stationed on a ship for two years, I can see why DCL would want total control of what sort of powers strips and cords were being used. Every electronic item on my ship had to be inspected yearly by our engineering department due to fire risk. DCL can't do that exactly, but I can see how the biggest risk would be multiple devices plugged into one item. So they'd rather you use something they know will work safely.

Technically Disney prohibits "Extension cords and surge protectors"
Surge protectors are the most dangerous (for the same reason those power strip protectors also cause house fires). The safest power strip is one without protector parts, has a circuit breaker, has no frayed wires, and is UL approved. If it violates any of those four, then do not be surprised if it is confiscated. Even extension cords without UL listing and those other requirements may not be safe enough.

I love multi port USB charger. It can help to charger several device simultaneously. I am using Charge M.E, by Ohming Technology, which is compatible with iphones, ipads, tablets, android phones and many more devices.

We also used a multi port Anker brand USB charger (and we use it at home every day too! Hello, no wires running everywhere at every outlet). It was great. We kept it plugged in behind the TV. On the Wonder, the bathroom outlets only ran our toothbrush. They would not even run a nightlight, so those are worthless. We did have 2 plugs on each side of the headboard which came in handy! I used one to charge my DSLR battery and one to charge my camcorder battery each night. We never had an outlet problem and I was super concerned because we were onboard 15 days.

I'll second the recommendation for a multi port USB charger. I've go an Anker model that I bought a Amazon and its a good, but partial solution to the charging problem. The other thing we do is to simply unplug the Wave phone charger since we never use them which frees up an extra outlet.

For those that have done any international travel, you might also want to bring along your outlet converter plugs so you can also use the 220 outlets for charging computers or cameras, most of which have multi-voltage capable chargers. Be sure to check your devices before doing this!!!

Got this through Amazon. Works great. My wife used on trip to DC and charged everything fast. Would not used a surge protector, they are dangerous

Are the locations of the outlets pretty standard for all the ships? What kind of outlet is in the bathroom? It has been my experience with other cruiselines that those are only good for shavers. Not much of an output.

Correct, the outlet in the bathroom is for shavers. There is typically one US and one European outlet on the desk. A US outlet behind the TV. And, recently added, a US outlet on each side of the queen bed.

I am a hairstylist and use a blowdryer every day at work. I had a heavy duty extension cord so that I could get around my chair easier and one day it melted. I was lucky I was there when it was happening or it could have started a fire. The ones on Disney ships are heavy duty and should inspected regularly. The one thing you don't want is a fire at sea. That is why they confiscate anything that could potentially start a fire. I know I wouldn't want to be the one who caused a fire onboard. I leave my extension cords and surge suppressors home now since I know they aren't allowed. I have started using the multi-USB cords, too.

At night my cell phone is plugged in by the bed and while it is charging it is also running a white noise APP.

I often wonder the difference. Are shaver outlet missing the ground pin? Most travel electronics don't have a ground plug.

Here is how we combated that.... My Mom, Brother and I were traveling... 4 cell phones, 2 Paperwhite Kindles, 3 iPads, 3 cameras... 12 items, everyone had to leave 1... Then we had plenty of outlets and the time we would have spent staring at screens we spent engaging with each other! :cloud9:

Most of the comments here discuss the risks of poser strips and extension cords... This should be a reminder for us all that we should replace all of the strips and cords in our house with a frequency. Coming from a family of firefighters I know of too many incidents of homes and lives lost when "old" strips are used. A good practice is to replace all strips and cords once a year. I do mine around the holidays when Lowes and other home stores have them on sale for holiday decoration.

If a power strip has the required circuit breaker and is UL listed, then frequent replacement does almost nothing for increased safety. Many of your brothers have seen power strip fires and mistakenly blamed them on 'old' or 'overloaded'. By far, the most danagerous types are those that contain surge protector parts. Many firehouses have had fires due to these dangerous devices:

I second the Anker multi-port charger. We, too, use it on vacation and at home. They also make great external batteries to recharge during port excursions.

European are (Uk) three pin with earth, shavers two round pins, (european) no earth, and USA two flat pins.

Magic has European and USA.
