I hear you can charge most everything throughout the world on your room key..... but you have to leave a credit card. I have a Visa Debit card with my bank.. can they use that or will I need an actual credit card **I don't want one... Trying to make it through college with no debt!!**

Thanks ya'll
Steven

I am pretty sure you would need a credit card for this. It is usually placed on the same card that your room is charged to. I don't think they would be able to do that on debit. I don't blame you for not wanting a credit card yet. I know of college kids who have $10,000.00 dollars worth of credit card bills before they even graduate (on various cards) and this has nothing to do with tuition or books. good luck and have fun!!:wave2:

I have been using my Visa Check card for many years for charging on my room key. I just stop at the desk every couple of days for a printout of my purchases. Never had a problem.

If you're looking to stay out of debt, NOT charging things to your room is a good thing to do. Being able to just yank out your room key and have your purchases sent straight there makes it just a liiiiittle too easy to buy things you weren't planning on buying.

I speak from experience. We spent WAAAAAY too much at Mouse Gears on our last trip. ;)

If it's got the Visa logo on the front, it should function just like a regular CC, I think.

When I went on my honeymoon, the card we left on our reservation was the Visa check card and the balance from our KTTW card was taken out of our bank account. There were some things that we used the Visa for, but mostly it was our room key that we charged to since it was all coming out of the same place.

HTH! Have a great trip!

I've used my Visa Check Card/Debit Card for each of our 4 DisneyWorld trips over the last 4 years with no problems at all. It is accepted for both normal payment and for the charge to room feature.

The only real gotcha was that once we had totalled $1000 in purchases against the room, they wouldn't let you charge any more until they charged that balance to your bank account to clear it. Then, everything started fresh again. If you find yourself in the position of being denied the charge on your card, have the CM call your resort and they will take care of all of these actions so you can continue with your purchase. You sometimes have to ask the CM to call although they should know this. Some will just hand it back and ask for alternative payment.

As advised above, I keep all my receipts, and get a printout from the front desk daily so I can balance the activity. This is definately worth the 15 minutes each night as opposed to a very confusing (and thick) bill on the last day.

The resorts in California will also take a debit card for payment, but they don't allow any charge to room option like DisneyWorld.

YES, you can use your debit card. I always use my Visa Debit Card for room charging Key at Disney World Resorts.

The great thing about a debit card is you're not tempted to spend more than you have in your checking account!

Here is what someone else on the boards suggested - and I am going to do it this way.

AAA sells a Visa gift card - it looks just like a regular credit card but functions like a debit card....you buy it in whatever amount you want (I'm buying one today for $700) and you can use it to put your room key charges on. That way, you have a limit ....just keep track of what you are spending! This will keep me from being too naughty!!!

Have fun....

Be very careful though!!!!

Before you leave, call your bank to see if there is a daily limit on how much can be charged through your card. With my bank, if I try to charge $500 or more, the card is declined.

Or, to avoid all that hassle, stop at the front desk, and have all charges put to your debit card daily so you won't have any huge sums to charge.

Good for you for not getting a credit card. I wish I'd NEVER had one.
