I gave Disney a credit card number so that I could do on line check in. However, I really don't want to charge anything this trip. I know I can go down to the desk and pay the charges before Disney runs the card. My questions are, what desk do I go to? Concierge? And what forms of payment will they accept? I know Disney gift cards, but will they take a check or cash? Just trying to figure out how I am going to take care of everything.

Just go to the checkin desk. Do this at least before you hit the max for your hotel type and before you check out (do it the night before).

Just a heads up....once they have that number, they can apparently do what they want with it....

We always have room only reservations, but pay the balance off a couple of months in advance but for the trip I just had in September, I waited until check in to pay. Well, I did check in and had my gift card out to pay and was told that there was a zero balance...:confused3

They apparently charged my card first thing that morning...I didn't even check in until 4 something!! I was so annoyed, because I was going to use the gift card and they took it out of my checking account instead...:sad2:

Did you do online check in and give a credit card number? I remember reading that one disadvantage to online check in is they will use the card on file to pay off the balance early in the morning of the day you're due to check in.

I have read this as well.

OP - Unless it's changed recently, if you booked RO and don't pay the balance prior to arriving, your cc will most likely be charged the balance of the room prior to you checking in. If you booked a package, there is no worry as that has to be paid in full 45 days from arrival. To answer your question about room charging, you can pay with cash, gift cards, etc (not sure about checks) as long as you settle charges prior to reaching the charging limit as the pp said.

I can tell you in over 20 trips, that we almost always book RO and only once at AKL did they charge my card before we checked in. I told the CM that I want to pay the balance off with my disney reward dollars and GCs that I had. She nicely told me that the earlier shift had already used our CC to pay the balance. I nicely showed her the print screen of my confirmation where it said that the balance is due at check-in. She totally understood and then voided the first transaction and then re-did the transaction using my rewards and GCs. All the other times when we check-in they have always went over my balance and asked if I want to use the CC on file to pay the balance. I also do not use online check-in and based on what I read, I will continue to NOT use it:)

I was referring to the OP's cc being charged ahead of time due to her doing OCI. I guess since the OP mentioned she did OCI, I assumed it was understood that that's what I was referencing with the cc being charged automatically. Sorry for the confusion.

No confusion:) I did not make myself clear, being at lunch I try to rush things:hyper: That is why I put in that I do not do OCI and from what I read in this post (which I am glad I did) I will not do it. The story about AKL is to let people know that Disney can undo the earlier charge, the CM may not want to or even say it cannot be done, but they can do it. Especially if you have a handfull of GCs:rotfl2:

Yes, I had done on line check in, which I always do. I wasn't aware of this practice, because like I said, we usually pay off the balance (even on room only) about 2 months prior. The front desk did offer to refund my card and then use the gift cards, so that was an option, but I didn't want to go through the hassle so just left it as it was.

I just ended up with a little extra on my GC for souvenirs....:rotfl2:

I like doing OLCI, but I hate that they require a CC for it...though I understand why. I will just make sure the balance is paid in full before I arrive as I always did before.

You can have them remove the card at check-in so your bands are not valid for charging, if you don't want to hassle with stopping at the desk later in the week. That way you can pay everything in cash, gift cards, etc.

I will say that we added our debit card to our bands instead of carrying cash, and paid for everything that way. No different than swiping our debit card, except that I didn't have to dig it out of my purse every time. On our check-out morning, Disney had emailed me an itemized copy of all of our charges. They were all correct, so we were able to just leave that morning. No stopping at the desk. It worked out very well!

LOL on posting at lunch and rushing things . It is nice that you posted about your experience at AKL just in case someone else encounters the same thing :goodvibes. I have never done OCI and really have no desire to as I like talking to the CMs at check in.....makes it more exciting to me to do that in person rather than just pick up a folder. But it is nice for those that enjoy the OCI procedure ;).

Good to know. I've had problem with Disney double charging my card when it was tied to the KTTW card, so I don't want it tied to the MB either.

Also, I thought online check in was required to participate in FP+? Am I confused?

Ok, thanks...not sure what I was thinking ;)

Some people have said in various threads that once you do online checkin, it allows you to customize your bands, so some people assumed that you needed to do online checkin in order to customize and make FP selections.

But you don't need to at all, if you don't want to. :goodvibes . We don't do online checkin because I don't like to attach my cc to anything if I don't have to.

1. Concierge, front desk, go to whichever one has a shorter line.
2. Disney Gift Cards, Disney Reward Cards, Disney Dollars, Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Discover, JCB, Cash, Personal Check, Traveler's Check, and debit cards that have the logo of one of the credit card companies listed.

I am one who likes having my purchases charged to the room, because the night or 2 before we leave I will stop by the front desk and have them printout an itemized list of all the charges that we have put on our room. I find it a lot easier to keep track of the charges. We also get a complete list at checkout.
