We will be going down with the free dining plan in September and I want to buy annual passes while there. Can I buy them at the resort and can I charge them to the room? I can get Disney gift cards and get a gasoline discount and want to pay it off with those gift cards.

1. Nope. APs can be bought only at a ticket booth or Guest Relations at the parks, TTC or DS.
2. You can, if you have a high enough "limit" to cover the amount.
3. You can do that. But, you can do that standing at a ticket location, too.

Why not just pay for the APs with the gift cards? You can use the disneygiftcard.com website to combine smaller gift cards onto one card with up to $1000. Then use that card(s) to pay for the APs.

Agreed,
but in-person, guests can use as many individual gift cards as they like.

True, but I feel bad handing over a stack of $25 or $50 gift cards to pay for something large like multiple APs. And if there is a line of people behind me, I feel doubly bad.

YOu can just directly pay for the AP with the gift cards when you buy them.

I did this. I bought a gift card every time I went to the grocery store. I went online and combined them, as suggested. I was able to pay for our upgrade with only two gift cards. It worked very well for me.

It lets you combine your gift cards onto one. Each card can have a max of $1000 and you can have up to 5 cards in the account. Over the past few months I've purchased approx $3,000 in gift cards from Target with the 5% savings. I was able to put those into the website, transfer onto one primary card (or multiple secondary cards) and pay for my Premier pass, and full resort reservation. Make sure you keep the primary card after paying though because if there is any refund needed, it goes back onto that card. And don't lose it if you have a bunch of money on it!

Paying with a ton of gift cards doesn't take that long at a ticket booth... We can just swipe card after card after card. And ticket sellers like selling APs, it looks good on our sales numbers. We don't care how you pay.

When I upgraded my ticket to an AP last year I was NOT able to charge it to the room. I was told that was not allowed.

Rats. I have a credit card that gives 5% back on hotel purchases. When I read the title to this thread, I got excited. I guess buying Disney gift cards with a Target Redcard is the next best way to save 5%.

That or waiting for another ticket special on those discount sites.

Great to know! Is this true for renewals, also? If so, I'll renew that way this year!

I plan on buying my AP online via wdw site using Disney saving website, since it's a 16 digit number that acts like a cc. I bought gc from bjs using the discover 5% cash back plus ebates, so 11% savings.

This has been my experience, too. I had to use my credit card.

Yes, hence my advice in post #3.
