Charges up front

So it looks like it might be cheaper for us to pay OOP next year instead of using the DP for several reasons. But, my question is this. Which meals, experiences require payment at reservation. I know most require CC to reserve.

CRT
Tusker House
Chef Mickey's
Crystal Palace
Spirit of Aloha (Luau)
Ohana

Any or all?

I know when I made a Chef Mickey ADR, there was a charge for $1 on my CC, which disappeared after a few days. I assumed it was to check that the card was valid. They didn't actually charge me the cost of the meal.

I believe the only ADRs that require pre-payment are dinner shows (HDDR, Mickeys BY BBQ, SOA) and CRT.
Most if not all character meals in addition to signature dining requires a CC to hold.

That is kinda what I was thinking too. I am still trying to play with numbers and do calculations. We may do the regular Dining plan and then pay OOP for 4 or 5 cheap meals. :)

From your list, CRT and SoA require payment. TH, CP, CM and Ohana require a cc to reserve.

Crystal Palace also requires a CC to make an ADR. Basically any of the Signatures (you don't have any listed) and any restaurant that has characters at any meals (TH, CM, CP and 'Ohana*) require a CC. Dinner shows and events (like CRT, SOA) require pre-payment.

*'Ohana only has characters at breakfast, but a cc is required for both breakfast and dinner. Same is true for Cape May Cafe.

Be Our Guest is neither signature nor character but requires a credit card hold for dinner. I think they go just by popularity sometimes.

Thanks for that, I somehow missed CP. I'll edit the other post, I don't want to confuse the issue. :)

I don't know if anyone still reads the Passporter, but it claims that you have to prepay all character meals. This is NOT true. Credit Card guarantees, yes. And yeah, basically I think they require a credit card guarantee on anything that is likely to get filled up. Most of our reservations required a CC guarantee. Exceptions were Kona, The Wave, and La Hacienda.

I think that Be Our Guest is only resturant that is not a Signature and not a character that requires a credit card to make an ADR. I agree that it's because it's new and so popular.

I think these are the restaurants that require a credit card:
  • 1900 Park Fare
  • Akershus Royal Banquet Hall
  • Cape May Café
  • Chef Mickey’s
  • The Crystal Palace
  • The Garden Grill
  • Hollywood & Vine
  • ‘Ohana
  • Tusker House Restaurant
  • Be Our Guest
  • Artist Point
  • California Grill
  • Cítricos
  • Flying Fish Café
  • Jiko – The Cooking Place
  • Le Cellier Steakhouse
  • Narcoossee’s
  • The Hollywood Brown Derby
  • Victoria & Albert’s
  • Yachtsman Steakhouse

And these are the venues that require full pre-payment:
  • Cinderella’s Royal Table
  • Disney’s Spirit of Aloha Dinner Show
  • Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue
  • Mickey’s Backyard BBQ

I also think that some of the dining packages require a credit card to book (not pre-payment).
  • Fantasmic! Dining Package
  • Candlelight Processional Package

For the ones that require pre-payment, if you have dining plan, do you still have to pay up front, or can you link it to your existing reservation. Do I need to call when making those ressies, versus reserving online??
