Charged Late Fee for Add-on in October

We added points in October and of course we had dues listed for it. However, the payable amount on our dues page was $0. I assumed it would be due come January 15th, just as it was for our 2019 dues. Well, I was finally able to access the website after several days of trying and I find that I was charged a late fee and interest for the add-on points. I did receive a payment notice earlier this week, but was unable to access the dues page. I’m guessing I have to call to get the late fee and interest charge reversed, especially since I never received a mailed bill or bill shown on the website. Has anyone else experienced this?

When you add on, you owe from date of purchase.

Since you added on in October, payment was due as soon as you closed the contract, Since these would be prorated for 2020, there would be no January bill since those went out before you owned,

Also, if you have auto payment set up for monthly payments it does not apply to new contracts unless you set it up for that as well.

Good luck with calling Membership Accounting but be prepared for a long wait as with the 2021 statements out, it might be busy.

I understand we owe on the contract, but I recall nothing was owed on the dues page when I checked in November. I did make a partial payment, the balance of the Disney GC when I paid off our first contract. I don’t doubt Membership Accounting will be busy, especially with 7 Dwarfs showing up all the time.

Usually the bill arrives 1-1.5 months after you add on. Like any interest charges you can ask to have it removed. Unknown what DVC might say.

This happened to us as well a couple of years ago but we caught it right before the stage when it was considered late. We only caught it because someone called us about a month or so after we added on direct to “welcome” us home and mentioned, just so you know, you have unpaid dues. It was in the summer and I was like really? I looked and figured out it was the new contract. No one told us when purchasing that we would be charged pro rated dues so it was a surprise. We added on another direct contract recently and the cm told us in great detail about dues etc.

Maybe when you checked in November, it was before your dues bill was calculated? It’s possible your dues became due a week or so after you checked. I usually get an email a month or so after closing. Good luck!
