Charge for reservation

I have a 9:15 pm reservation for BOG, the only time available. This is a bit late for our kids, and our last night at WDW, so we would like to see the fireworks and this reservation interferes. Given how hard this is to book we are willing to keep this time and keep our fingers crossed that a better time will open before our trip. If we can't get a better time we were thinking of trying our walk up luck. My question is if I walk up earlier in the night (for example 4pm) and somehow get seated earlier for dinner will I still be charged as a no show for the 9:15? Or can I tell them I had a later reservation that night, once they accept the walk up, and count it as our party showing up resulting in no fee? Hoping someone has experience or answers. Thanks.

Call Disney Dining and ask them. I think it's unfair to hold onto a 9:15 reservation if you don't intend to use it; it jips someone else out of the opportunity, and lots of us have jumped through a ton of hoops trying to get BoG ressies.

Even though it's hard to get a res, I would continue to check online multiple times a day for a better time. You can even check with the resort concierge or guest relations in the park.

There's no set policy of what will happen so it depends on what the restaurant and/or CMs do. If the restaurant is fully booked (and BOG obviously is), there will be many walk ups or people arriving earlier than their res. I know that at some of the very popular restaurants people showing up early are told to return at their res time. When we were at BOG walk ups were being told to check back periodically during the evening so I would guess that you would be asked to return at your res time.

It's possible that you will be charged the no show fee because technically you didn't show up for your res and by eating earlier (without an earlier time res) you are a walk up. The CMs at the podium are pretty busy (esp at BOG) so while they might say you won't be charged, they might also get busy and forget to note it on your actual res.

Because this res is too late for your children and you also want to see the fireworks, you can have lunch at BOG without a reservation since it's a counter service at lunchtime. The menu is different, but you'll be able to walk around after you're finished eating to see all of the rooms.

I agree.

I would also hold onto the res you have until you decide for sure what you want to do. If you are certain you don't want to dine that late, then let it go.

Thanks for all the feedback. Called Disney Dining and they told me that the decision would be made at the restaurant and that I might incur a fee. The cm I talked to said to keep checking because a lot people are booking BoG for every night of their trip then cancelling when they finalize plans. (She claims one family made 10 in a row. Not sure if this is even possible.) My 8 year old is not willing to let the dinner go (I blame the constant reminder that Disney channel has recently shown on repeat)So given this information, my husband said just add another day on trip to watch fireworks and keep BoG where it is, but keep checking for earlier. If I find a earlier time I will be sure to notify everyone of my cancellation. Thanks for the help.
